Biggest rise in food poverty in NZ on record and a massive lag in school achievement for kids who go hungry and yet the government announces they want to cut funding for the school lunch programme…. rnz.co.nz/national/programme…
First paper to promote whānau (family) and student voice on the NZ healthy school lunch programme now out showing broad impacts of this massive shift in school food environments @doc_samantha @healthpromoint academic.oup.com/heapro/arti…
Yesterday we had a long, shuddering type earthquake in Napier- during which all 3 of my kids were told by their teachers to ‘be quiet and keep working’! Didn’t we just have a civil defence emergency in HB and shouldn’t teachers know process? At least show a bit of empathy?
Supporting the students in Napier today. A bit concerned that my 9yr old interviewed said ‘the planet’s falling to pieces’- but then, she kind of has a point! fb.watch/j1kI1GAHnd/?mibexti…

In this opinion piece for Newsroom, FMHS Honorary Senior Lecturer Dr Robert Bartholomew emphasises that, despite reports of looting and gang behaviour post-Cyclone Gabrielle, disasters tend to bring out the best in people: bit.ly/3SGN9CY
Never before has it felt this important for kids to get a good school lunch as in Hawke’s Bay right now. Here’s what HB students and whānau said about the first 2 years of meals in their schools #preprint on @researchsquare researchsquare.com/article/r… #CycloneGabrielle #foodsecurity
Love the use of humour here to get us out of our cars! youtu.be/nnkogDhUujo
Excited to see our results article published today in a special issue on child wellbeing in Aotearoa. Tamariki and rangatahi in regional NZ are missing out and their health and well-being suffers - see how here tandfonline.com/eprint/9VPXZ…
and this is a good thing how...? Can't a kid just remember soccer days as soccer days, not 'intertwined' with McDonald's?

Let’s call ‘time out’ on junkfood vouchers in kids’ sport, and replace when with free passes to the local pool or court. A new partnership between @VicHealth & councils, it’s been demanded by parents and healthier for kids. 👇 @7NewsMelbourne – at Melbourne, Victoria
Picked up the coach's kit for my daughter's soccer team tonight... Free burger vouchers and brand placement everywhere. Even on the POD trophy kids will be taking to their bedrooms ... 😠
Great use of the French gilets jaunes example to show how important it is to design climate policy in a way that improves social equality.

NZ said to have "Scandinavian ambitions in terms of quality of life and public services, but a US attitude to tax." Otherwise known as "champagne tastes, on a beer budget."
Need to do better on this.
We're not very big, but we do still have room!
(And part of me is amazed there are data trackers that monitor changes in search terms like this?!)
