They’re going to monetise history access, similar to Slack, knowing full well that people have had gmail for years and will want access to all their old emails. – at South East, England

Spending time with family. You’ll miss spending time with family.
I was lucky enough to work at Google ‘05-10. We were in the office, 9a-8p, Mon-Thurs; Friday 9a-5p. Saturday people took off (kinda). Back online Sunday most of the day. I think you miss something profound if you don’t have this work environment early in your career.

lol thanks @fauna. You’re so funny… apparently you analysed my usage and somehow determined that the best path is to upgrade from $25 / month to the new Pro plan which is £500 / month. Well that’s a no. The “recommended” action is just to move away from Global region group. – at South East, England

Gatsby was awesome for a while after this Series B - Plugin architecture was amazing, incremental builds and hosting with Gatsby Cloud… but Gatsby 4 broke many plugins, and Gatsby Cloud became unreliable. The Netlify acquisition was needed, but also a mistake at the same time. – at South East, England
Gatsby had a super nice brand, design, homepage, swag, marketing / dev rel, top investors, $28 million war chest. The whole kit.

I used to love Unity, but they’ve turned it into unwanted DRM for developers. There is no confusion, just frustration. Charging per install is just insane. What was wrong with the previous revenue model? It’s just greed. – at South East, England
We want to acknowledge the confusion and frustration we heard after we announced our new runtime fee policy. We’d like to clarify some of your top questions and concerns: Who is impacted by this price increase: The price increase is very targeted. In fact, more than 90% of our customers will not be affected by this change. Customers who will be impacted are generally those who have found a substantial scale in downloads and revenue and have reached both our install and revenue thresholds. This means a low (or no) fee for creators who have not found scale success yet and a modest one-time fee for those who have. Fee on new installs only: Once you meet the two install and revenue thresholds, you only pay the runtime fee on new installs after Jan 1, 2024. It’s not perpetual: You only pay once for an install, not an ongoing perpetual license royalty like a revenue share model. How we define and count installs: Assuming the install and revenue thresholds are met, we will only count net new installs on any device starting Jan 1, 2024. Additionally, developers are not responsible for paying a runtime fee on: - Re-install charges - we are not going to charge a fee for re-installs. - Fraudulent installs charges - we are not going to charge a fee for fraudulent installs. We will work directly with you on cases where fraud or botnets are suspected of malicious intent. - Trials, partial play demos, and automation installs (devops) charges - we are not going to count these toward your install count. Early access games are not considered demos. - Web and streaming games - we are not going to count web and streaming games toward your install count either. - Charity-related installs - the pricing change and install count will not be applied to your charity bundles/initiatives. Unity states that only ~10% of their customers will be affected, making it sound less bad than it is. As of the gaming report 2022 Unity had 230.000 developers - thats around 23.000 developers affected by the change. Lots of studios have posted statements about moving engines. investors.unity.com/news/news-deta…

I spent a full 8 hours coding today. I rewrote an old site of my buddy's from scratch: Gatsby -> Next MUI -> Tailwind Sanity -> Still Sanity, it's great I LOVED IT. I feel so energised. I could do another 8 hours. Need to get back to this full-time at some point.

Alright. I think it’s almost time to start talking about what I’ve been building since I lost my job back in June. I’m pretty happy with the tech stack. It’s using @nextjs and the new App Router, hosted on @vercel, powered by @supabase and @stripe. I’m excited it to launch soon. – at South East, England

This announcement unfortunately whiffs of “we knew it was happening but didn’t do anything about it at the time because we were just as bad. We should probably start behaving better”. The lack of apology or empathy says it all… – at South East, England
We are taking Madison’s allegations seriously. We are conducting an internal assessment alongside bringing in a third-party investigator to look into the allegations. We are committed to publishing the findings and implementing any corrective actions that may arise due to this. Thank you for your patience, and please allow us the time necessary to be as thorough as possible in this investigation. In addition to our existing report systems – both anonymous and otherwise – we've proactively reached out internally today to encourage our team members to report any workplace bullying or harassment they might be experiencing so we can take quick and decisive action. These allegations do not align with our company's ethics or the values we preach internally. We aim to provide an inclusive work environment where everyone can feel comfortable and, more importantly, safe.

I’m definitely baffled by this ad. @CommunityNotes clearly states that the ad is fake, but @X still hasn’t taken it down and allows it to be promoted despite false advertising. I’m sure there are many more ads like this. What gives @elonmusk ? – at South East, England

After downloading, it's actually a MMO build and conquest game. The game they show in the ads ARE included as mini games but only after reaching certain levels (you receive experience for developing your city) and upon reaching those you unlock a few stages.(less than ten stages)

First thought was a weird outdated flex, but actually… build the app in the stack you feel most comfortable with. If you have no team, this decision will help you move quickly. Want to bring on other engineers? Sticking with this decision will slow you down. – at South East, England
PhotoAI.com is now almost 14,000 lines of raw PHP mixed with inline HTML, CSS in <style> and raw JS in <script> tags I did not use TS, flexbox or frameworks except jQuery A lot of $.ajax() and float:left though It has 1,872 paying customers making $61,808 per month

I’m going to assume that this is another top down request from Elon to prevent people from “correcting” him. Seems odd that only a few days ago one of his tweets had a note against it from the community correcting him… – at East Midlands, England
Replying to @CommunityNotes
How does it work? This algorithm update effectively adds a confidence score alongside the existing note helpfulness score. Some notes that have low helpfulness scores are likely to maintain low helpfulness scores as new ratings come in, while others might see their helpfulness scores dramatically increase as new ratings come in. The former are indeed broadly found “not helpful” while the latter might be fine or even helpful notes. Today’s change measures how much a note’s helpfulness score might change with new ratings, so it can more precisely identify notes in that former set.
