Vandaag deze film gezien. Adembenemend.

PALESTINE ’36 is one of those films that stays with you after the credits roll.
A powerful and emotional look at the events that shaped the reality we still see today, told through strong performances and thoughtful filmmaking. It’s heartbreaking, frustrating, and often difficult to watch because of how relevant it feels.
Regardless of where you stand politically, it’s a film that invites reflection on the human cost of conflict and the consequences of history repeating itself.
Worth your time.

"A powerful reminder that the neocolonial tactics of Zionism are not without precedent, and that British Imperialism has the ability to shape-shift into something equally depraved."

“What happened in Palestine between 1936 and 1939 is “an argument without end,” to borrow Pieter Geyl’s phrase, but by dramatizing it in fiction and film, Antonius and Jacir bring us closer to real life than any historical account ever could.”

On Saturday, the General Union of Palestinian Journalists in the uk participated in the screening of the Palestinian film *Palestine 36*. Hosted at the Hanager Cinema Hall at the Egyptian Opera House complex in Cairo, the event was part of the Film Society Festival’s program.
The Union’s attendance reflects its commitment to supporting Palestinian cinema and bolstering the presence of the Palestinian national narrative in cultural and artistic forums. It also underscores the vital role of art and cinema in documenting Palestinian history and conveying the Palestinian people's suffering and their struggle for freedom and independence.
Directed by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, *Palestine 36* explores a pivotal era in Palestinian history, shedding light on the events of 1936 and the transformations and confrontations that characterized that period under the British Mandate.
The Union’s participation reaffirms its dedication to engaging with cultural and artistic events that highlight Palestinian identity, preserve national memory, and strengthen cultural ties between the Palestinian and Egyptian peoples.
