African ruling and interests actors in countries like Congo/Somalia/South Sudan discovered profits in these countries are located in capturing cargo routes in the outskirts through checkpoints, and NOT in actual industries/countries themselves and never looked back

I missed this Lunch with the FT interview with Erik Prince. If you ever needed proof of the centrality of 'logistics' in security and politics, look no further than the pitch Prince makes here (over a 10oz steak). ft.com/content/85e95551-5e3b…

"Traoré is winning a war of ideas that is separate from whether his policies succeed. The side with the more legible story often beats the side with the better spreadsheet, and his is legible..." coogunmodede.substack.com/p/…

Burkina Faso's 'patriotic support fund' has raised $430m this year in taxes and donations. Money from this fund is dedicated to security spending and also supports the VDP militia. finances.gov.bf/forum/detail…

Today marks four years since Ibrahim Traoré came to power in Burkina Faso. The ideological parallels to Sankara are mixed, but at this stage IB has made his mark on the country and its place in global consciousness in a similar way. dw.com/fr/burkina-faso-mêbo-…

The umpteenth editorial in which we’re told that the rights and safety of our Jewish brothers and sisters have to be linked to a political defence of Israel. No thanks. theglobeandmail.com/canada/t…

Attacks by racists and antisemites in our communities just become fodder for articles that quickly devolve into naive defences of this or that foreign policy, and totally unserious discussion of political ideas like (anti-)Zionism. No thanks.

The accusation that one's work is 'AI' has tremendous power. We should be careful how that power is wielded, and who we tend to ask this question of. There is no software that will get us out of this fact.
