Where to place an ultrasound transducer to optimally target a specific brain region in a given individual? We developed 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗧𝗨𝗦, a tool that helps TUS researchers to quickly and heuristically select the most promising transducer placement(s). A 🧵 on its functionalities.

How many papers is too many in a year? Was pointed to this Facebook poll (thank you). We did a similar one recently, but set the threshold at 30. It is subjective but ... 1⃣ The poll says "The current threshold ... is 60". Where does that threshold come from? Anybody know? 2⃣ What would you consider as "too many" papers in a year, bearing in mind that there will never be a number that everybody agrees on?

Does astrology work? We tested the ability of 152 astrologers to see if they could demonstrate genuine astrological skill. Here is how the study was designed and what we found (including a result that really surprised me): 🧵

My 1st postdoc preprint! iEEG dissociates reward/effort in PFC theta/BG beta during decisions + PFC stim boosts reward effect on choice. Huge thanks: @coradehemptinne & @littleneuro for heavy lifting early on & Sarah Wang, @OxfordPERL, @brain_apps, @MasudHusain, Philip Starr!🧵⤵️

We are happy to release the first results of a RCT of a US program that provided $1,000/month unconditionally for 3 years to 1,000 individuals in the treatment group, with a group of 2,000 people receiving $50/month serving as the control. These are sizable transfers. 1/ 🧵

. In the last 12 days the most hyper productive authors of 2024 have all (bar one) published 20 papers. Twelve days ago we posted a tweet that received over 901K impressions (but far our most viewed tweet). It showed the authors that had published over 200 papers in 2024. You can see that tweet here: xitter.cf/fake_journals/status/1…. We thought it was worth taking another look at these authors, just 12 days on. In the past 12 days, they have all increased the number of papers they have published. Here is what we observe: 🔴All 22 authors have published more than one paper a day in the past 12 days. All but one have published 1.67 papers a day. 🔴Authors 7-22 had all published 216 papers 12 days ago. They have all now increased by exactly 20 papers. We have not looked more deeply at the data (yet), but that cannot be a coincidence, can it? 🔴Authors 2-6 have also increased by exactly 20 papers. Again, this (surely) cannot be a coincidence, can it? What is your takeaway message from these findings? PS: Unlike the last tweet, we now show the author names as i) people knew anyway and ii) it is in the public domain (well at least to those who have access to @Scopus).
. 22 people have published more than 200 papers in 2024 (so far, we still have another six months to go) We have been doing some research on another project and saw something that we found interesting. We'd be interested to know what you think. In 2024, 22 authors (according to @Scopus) have published over 200 papers. The table below shows the details (we decided not to show author names at this time). The author who has published the most papers has authored 261 papers (as at 15 Jun 2024) meaning that he/she has published 1.56 papers every day this year (and counting). If we exclude weekends (everybody has to rest, right?), then they have published 2.18 papers every day. Serious question: Is it possible for anybody to contribute in a meaningful way (at least to warrant being at author) when they are publishing a paper every day?
