As a former co-chair of Alberta’s Energy Diversification Advisory Committee (EDAC), I can confirm that all of this is true. And it’s an important point to be made in this moment. Alberta is NOT getting ripped off by the rest of Canada on our oil.
As Alberta debates separation, consider this: Alberta already enjoys more constitutional authority and control over developing its oil, gas and natural resources than almost any subnational government worldwide. It owns the resources, controls development and keeps Crown royalties. In most countries, these powers rest with national governments.
