🐝🐝🐝 I am excited to share more research from my lab @MarquetteU! This work, lead by PhD student Casey Lambert, identifies how #honeybees use physical interactions to coordinate collective behavior, published in @BehavEcol. Let me tell you about it... academic.oup.com/beheco/adva…...

Overall, this work shows that physical interactions are critical for initiating the fanning response in honey bees. We are still working on what exactly they are doing when they are interacting, but we are excited about where this work will take us!

I also want to highlight the amazing undergraduate co-authors that collected most of these data - we have the best students @MarquetteU especially in @MUArtsSciences!

You don't often see the wings of a Devil's Coach Horse, but I think this one must have blundered into a spider's web. See how it puts its wings away, folding them into the tiny space under the elytra by doing some serious abdominal writhing.

Did you need a bouquet of flowers from the American pika? During the late summer, pika will begin to gather mouthfuls of vegetation to build “haystacks” for their winter food supply. Photo by Eivor Kuchta (sharetheexperience)
