Verifying that we've viewed the Slack conversation that took place between @jason_coleman and @photomatt, and can confirm that Matt did threaten to take over Paid Memberships Pro. Story coming soon.

I have a screenshot of the DM. I'm considering the safest way to share it publicly and looking into options for third-party verification. Any recommendations?

Thank you to everyone who has replied! Iโm looking forward to learning about any and all efforts and how I might can help with organization. I, of course, have my own thoughts on the matter. I have a busy work week ahead. Iโll try to find time to share them.

Hello, dear #WordPress friends. So now that most of us are *finally* on the same page that project leadership needs reform, is anyone strategizing how folks can work together to bring change? Are there any efforts being made to organize the community? Iโd love to hear from you.

the hostile takeover of ACF was clearly threatened and isn't a surprise, but I am shook right now how any trust I had in WordPress as a platform had just been wiped out.

This is how the masses will unknowingly update from the real authentic @wp_acf to SCF.

Some of the most amazing people in the #WordPress community are leaving because they can no longer ethically/financially/emotionally support what our community has become.

"If I were ever not a good leader, the software could fork" - Matthew Mullenweg
Thanks @photomatt but we didn't need your permission or @Automattic's ๐ช
The NotMattPress repo auto-sync's with the WordPress repo daily at 4:20am
It automatically changes "WordPress" to "NotMattPress", "Matt Mullenweg" to "No Matt", etc.
So you can run your own version of WordPress without anyone knowing it's WordPress ... because it's Not(MattPress) ๐

Advanced Custom Fields @wp_acf is very much integrated in our OSS ecosystem as evidenced by all of the tutorials on WordPress dot org and the 375 presentations on WordPress dot tv. Not to mention the 3,700 times it occurs as reference on WordPress dot com. @photomatt

(q) When do you plan to add support in the admin UI for alternate source urls for plugins and themes [...] ?
(matt) Why would I build that? The built-in source works great, for tens of millions of servers.

given that (1) WP core is hardcoded to official repos, (2) WP org forbids alternate update sources, (3) WP core aggressively destroyed non-repo plugins for many years overwriting them on name conflicts... "why did no one roll their own infra, huh!?" is an... iffy accusation. ๐

yes, Automattic donated 0.02282% (two hundredth of a percent) of capital they raised to PHP Foundation. it's (honestly!) awfully nice of them that it's larger than zero, but a little short of percentages they hold others to.
