As many an author knows, most early tomes that get drafted eventually get whittled down long before publication. In my recent book I had a whole chapter on Pittsburgh long before steel defined it. With July 4th almost here, and much of that history flowing around the Revolutionary War, I thought I would put this 'lost chapter' out there. Enjoy:

Pittsburgh is excited by the #Pirates. So quit the interviews from the stands with players dads when game in progress. People want to see the Pirates. Can you imagine an NFL game where they interviewed a playerโs father while the game was in progress?
Freeing up parking is taking extra long in Pittsburgh after near-record snow. City hired contractors to help but still a lot to go. After shoveling my spot out earlier I decided to shovel out another for exercise. Instead of waiting around and complaining, letโs start a trend ๐งต

3/ JaQuay Edward Carter graces local history nerds (me) with facts that he regularly uncovers, so I passed Bikoโs art on to him.
It is a comfort to know that itโs in the hands of a young historian who will cherish it til itโs his time to pass it forward.

ALT These hour-and-a-half tours traverse city neighborhoods and introduce tour-goers to various walking trails and footpaths. This season includes Flick working with guest writers Nancy Krygowski, Sarah Shotland, and Robert Yune, each exploring a different neighborhood and theme, such as noticing, inside/outside, the past isnโt the past, and immersion. As participants walk these areas, they will have the opportunity to exercise their creative writing skills, responding to Flickโs writing prompts at each tour stop. The writing prompts are unique to each tour route and correspond with its surroundings. Each guest writer will read their work aloud during the program.
