Tinkering around the edges. Labour's 6-months VAT freeze on domestic electricity will save me 83p a week. Meanwhile, let's instead talk about the nation's defence and growing the economy rather than penalising businesses.

The threat level against the country continues to grow yet the Burnham government has told the British Army to cease major exercises with Challenger 2 tanks and Apache gunships to save money. Our Bus-Conductor-in-Chief can find money for all sorts of gimmicks that allow him to play to the gallery. But not for essential defence spending. Unforgivable.

Labour politicians are working out how to tax you more. My team is working out how you can keep more of your own money. @griffitha @ClaireCoutinho and Richard Fuller are my new Economic Unit. Their job is to find the responsible tax cuts and reforms that let businesses grow, and make sure you feel it in your wages, weekly shop, bills and the cost of your home. We will abolish stamp duty on your home, we will end the Family Farm Tax and Family Business Tax. And we will go further, with responsible plans so that families can keep more of what they earn.

Labour have no plan to fund defence.❌ They are more focused on raising taxes to hand out more benefits than on giving our armed forces the resources they need to keep us safe. 🥀 🔵 Only the Conservatives under Kemi have the backbone to cut welfare and fund defence.🇬🇧

The whole "but you were in government for 14 years" argument - when used to dismiss any change of policy by the Conservatives or to close down debate about what should happen next - is intellectually absurd. By that same logic Margaret Thatcher, Keith Joseph and Geoffrey Howe should have been ignored between 1975-79 because they all served under Ted Heath. They had four years in government that gave Britain the Barber boom, statutory wage and price controls, the miners’ strike in 1972 and the Three-Day Week. Yet the whole significance of Thatcherism was that the Conservatives learnt from the failure of the policies and assumptions they had previously accepted. Political parties are supposed to learn from failure, not remain permanently imprisoned by it. The test is not whether @KemiBadenoch's @Conservatives have changed their minds. It is whether their new diagnosis is correct and the policies they put forward are capable of addressing the problems they have identified.

🚨 BREAKING: The Electoral Commission respond to the alleged secret donations to Reform UK "The law requires political parties to report all permissible donations they accept with a value over £11,180 and all impermissible donations over £500. Information about any potential attempt to evade the controls on donations is for the police to consider"

Clear plan delivered by Kemi to get to 3% of GDP spent on defence by 2030. The world has changed, and we must act in order to meet increasing challenges to peace and to our national security. Those who want peace prepare for war.

Conservatives have a fully funded plan to increase our defence spending to 3% - restoring the two child benefit cap, cutting housing benefit and making changes to the motability scheme. Defence of our country must be every government’s highest priority.

Andy Burnham has been Prime Minister for five minutes and he is already laying the ground for tax rises. Labour cannot control spending, so people who work hard and create jobs pay the price. Conservatives will cut spending, lower taxes and get Britain working again.

Mauritius is now preparing to pressure the Prime Minister into surrendering British sovereignty over the Chagos Islands. He should tell them: no. telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2… This disastrous deal threatens our security, ignores the Chagossian people and leaves British taxpayers paying billions for the privilege of giving away our own territory. It is indefensible. Scrap the deal.

Anna Turley put the police officers who died in Middlesbrough on a par with the thugs who killed them. Instead of recognising her error, she doubled down and claimed the local police told her to say what she did. This is completely implausible, and the local Labour police commissioner denies it. I've had no reply to my letter to Anna this morning, in which I asked for evidence. As a Home Office minister, she should know better than this. Do you think she's telling the truth?

Conservatives have a plan to create an economic revolution. 🚀 We’ll cut energy costs, cut taxes, make hiring easier and slash red tape so British businesses can grow and create jobs.

Andy Burnham wants a round of applause for agreeing not to release rapists and child sex offenders. He's not getting one. This is only a partial climbdown. Killers, violent offenders, men who have terrorised their partners and more will all still walk out of prison in October thanks to Labour’s early release scheme. Yet again victims are learning their fate from press releases. Conservatives have a better plan. Build, rent, remove. Build more prisons. Rent prison spaces abroad. Remove foreign criminals. The victims of these horrific crimes have suffered weeks of uncertainty and fear. They deserve so much better.
