He's right.
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Yes absolutely everything.
I need to know how many of you were the kid who read absolutely everything. Cereal boxes. Shampoo bottles. The phone book. I did not require plot. I required words.

Europe as we know it, with its spiritual and moral heritage, is rooted in the lives and work of men and women who lived, preached, and shared the teachings of the Gospel. From this heritage, the moral foundations of the world in which we live have been handed down to us: principles such as the primacy of the person and the sacred and inviolable nature of human life; the protection of freedom; the primary importance of the family; care for the poor and those most in need; welcoming the stranger; and respect for the elderly. #ApostolicJourney #France

The visual definition of a "cyclist" completely changes the second you stop designing infrastructure exclusively for middle-aged men riding for sport.

I am in favor of people writing their own damn poetry and having conversations with other human beings and actually living in the physical world and thinking and acting and choosing for themselves. A world of widespread consumer AI adoption is a world without human experience.

Lame duck protestant franco 😆
Seems like in the last week or so the ai accelerationism position among the christian new right has solidified. Which is just so entirely baffling to me. I mean is it just that your actually existing lame duck protestant franco has tweeted some memes?

The irony of English majors being among the least religious is that half the Western canon becomes incomprehensible if you don’t know the Bible.
Which college majors are the least religious? The answer is folks in the arts: fine arts, studio art, and film and media studies. What majors are the most religious? Finance and nursing. I locate dozens of majors on religious affiliation and attendance in this scatterplot

Here somebody doing some real journalism. Very important to get the facts on the ground,
Yesterday in Ceuta there were widespread reports, and many comments on my posts, claiming that everyone crossing the border had been sent back. What did I actually witness? I saw a large number of men, roughly aged 18–30, being escorted back towards Morocco by the authorities. In some cases, force was used. It did appear to me that the vast majority have left with mainly stragglers left hiding but I only arrived at 5pm approximately yesterday so it’s not a full picture I also saw local residents standing guard outside their homes and neighbourhoods. Some were carrying spanners, baseball bats and metal poles, warning groups of men to move on and leave the area. I’ll be spending the full day in Ceuta today to see how the situation develops and will report only what I witness. Apologies for the delays in posting yesterday. Mobile signal at the border was extremely poor, with multiple live TV broadcasts putting heavy demand on the network. If there’s anything you’d like me to look into while I’m here, leave your questions in the comments. Adrian

Martyn Ziegler deserves a Pulitzer Prize for this. He has saved football. There is no way that Infantino survives now and it's all because Ziegler somehow broke the story. If he allowed Infantino to do this on his own timetable, having the time to have clandestine chats in smokefilled rooms maybe he would have got it through but Ziegler had other ideas and that's journalism. Superb.

Looks like Amnesty International UK is going to need a bigger letterbox as those it labelled “anti-right groups” start to request an explanation. It’s pulled the report, but so far there’s been no public apology. Some letters and list of those it named in the comments below. 🧵

I think of this tweet a lot these days
This is your legacy on the occupied Palestinian territory, Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. History will remember your complicity. Despite a partial arms suspension in 2024, Keir Starmer's government has continued to enable Israel's atrocities against Palestinians, their families and children through the supply of F-35 fighter jet parts. Nothing can change the horrors Palestinians have faced. But the next Prime Minister has an opportunity to put an end to the UK Government's role as an ally to atrocities. The UK Government must: 🔴 Suspend all arms sales to Israel 🔴 Suspend the UK-Israel trade and partnership agreement 🔴 Ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements To the next Prime Minister: what will your plaque say?
