Irish Sea border – 1920s version 🧵
Given the ongoing row about the NI Protocol, I have been fascinated to discover that throughout the 1920s (and into the 1930s) anyone shipping goods between Britain and N. Ireland was subject to Customs checks. 1/14

"You were right." The Foreign Secretary today said that about the millions of people who have marched for Palestine.
@Ed_Miliband, the Labour government is still complicit in Israel's genocide and apartheid.
If you now accept we were right, you must stop arming Israel.

The announcements today represent a significant shift from the Labour government, and let’s be clear, these would not have come without the resolve of millions of people who have marched, campaigned and refused to be silent on Palestine.

Last Saturday, thousands marched for Palestine in London. We demand the new PM Andy Burnham take concrete action to end Israel's genocide including through a full arms embargo. 🇵🇸

Apologising isn't enough.
To truly distance himself from Keir Starmer's toxic legacy, the new Prime Minister must end Britain's complicity in Israel's genocide.

Today marks 1 year since @hackneyabbott was suspended from the Labour Party.
Andy Burnham should do the right thing and bring Diane back.

Andy Burnham has apologised and admitted that the government got it wrong on Palestine, but his statement remains totally inadequate.
We need meaningful action.
End the genocide. Stop arming Israel. Sanctions now.

Andy Burnham has apologised for Labour's stance on Gaza and says it needs to “do better”.
We must now see decisive action.
We've called on him to recognise the reality of Israel's genocide and to impose comprehensive sanctions, including a full arms embargo:

🚨 National March for Palestine - Tell the New PM - Stop the Genocide
⏰ Saturday 18 July, 12PM
📍 Central London
Keir Starmer has been forced to resign – brought down partly by his shameful support for Israel’s crimes.
Join our march to send a powerful message to the next Prime Minister to break with this moral bankruptcy, stand up for Palestine and take all possible action to end Israel’s genocide.

It is in no small part due to Palestine that Keir Starmer is no longer Prime Minister.
PSC Deputy Director @PeterLeary at the Anti War conference.

Starmer’s Defence Investment Plan means another £15bn for deadly weapons of war. Paid for by cuts to public services. The government argues increasing war spending boosts jobs growth. But it’s own data shows this is a lie.
It’s time to invest in saving lives not destroying them.

NEW: @PSCupdates has sent Labour MPs a briefing outlining that the party’s record on Palestine is a major factor for progressive voters ditching Labour & they overwhelmingly support tougher policies on Israel

Palestine is central to international issues of war and militarisation, as PSC Deputy Director @PeterLeary explains from the Anti War Conference in London today.
Peter Leary retweeted
PSC is proud to be part of the International Anti-War Conference on Saturday because one thing that the last 3 years have taught us is that what is at stake today, not just in Palestine, but around the world, are two very different visions of the future.
