It has been wonderful to see the recent surge in writing about our relationship to our ancient past. Three I have enjoyed recently are Upon A White Horse by Peter Ross, Stone Lands by Fiona Robertson and Stories of the Stones by Paul Robichaud. 1/2

I’ve written the lead book review for @thetimes today on @MorleyRA’s wonderful Church Crawling, a pootle round the secret lives and hidden stories of England’s churches, revealing the humanity at the heart of them

Joan Eardley: The Sea at Catterline – seascapes to rival Turner?
The Scottish artist of stirring genius has long been deserving of a major retrospective. This celebration of her exhilarating seascapes shows why

Whilst reading the excellent 'Upon a White Horse' by @PeterAlanRoss, I couldn't quite place why Burton Agnes was so naggingly familiar. It took a while before I twigged: on the wall are photos of little me and mum in front of Burton Agnes Hall, a GWR steam locomotive!

First time on the walls of Pisa and what a great way to see the city. Deserted up above the busy streets, a bargain at €5 for several kilometres. Do take water!
Dear @timpopedirector @thecure @RobertSmith:
Are there any plans to re-screen the band's greatest concert ever—The Cure in Orange—next year, to mark the 40th anniversary of its release
Sincerely,

And having now reached the end, I shall begin writing up the many notes I've made!
Thank you, Peter, for such an evocative book - I could picture places from your descriptions, and feel the history at Vindolanda and Ness of Brodgar.
A fitting conclusion to the 'Fox Trilogy'😊

Let’s not forget that even if England win against Norway on Saturday they will then immediately have to march 200 miles south and play France without so much as a hydration break
