🎨🌿 HARRY PINEDO-ININ METSA: URBAN LIVES, FOREST WORLDS 🌿🎨 The Embassy of Peru was delighted to inaugurate a new exhibition by Peruvian artist #HarryPinedo-Inin Metsa at the #IncaGarcilasoGallery, bringing to London the vibrant colours, traditions and cultural identity of the Shipibo community. 🇵🇪✨ 💬 The evening began with a conversation between Harry Pinedo and Giuliana Borea, where Harry shared his background, artistic journey and the meaning of his community’s art, offering guests a deeper insight into the traditions and stories that inspire his work. Ambassador Ignacio Higueras highlighted the importance of creating spaces in London where Peru’s diverse cultural expressions can be shared through the voices of its communities. 🎨 We then opened the exhibition, giving guests the opportunity to experience Harry’s work in person and appreciate his remarkable talent. 🇵🇪✨ Celebrating Peru's Independence Month ✨🇵🇪 As part of Peru's Independence Month celebrations, the Embassy of Peru was proud to present a vibrant cultural programme highlighting the richness, diversity, and creativity of our country. 🇵🇪 🎶 We kicked off the month with a special listening party celebrating the launch of Bettine Solf's album, #GroundhogDay: Ritmos que Vuelven, an inspiring project blending Peruvian musical traditions with contemporary sounds. 🎙️ We also hosted the panel discussion "Commemorating 205 Years of Peru's Independence through shared history", reflecting on the enduring legacy of General José de San Martín and the independence process of South America. The event featured Ambassador Mariana Plaza of Argentina, Juan Dávila y Verdín, Secretary General of the British San Martín Institute, and was moderated by academic Luis Rebaza Soraluz. Guests also witnessed the presentation of the Independence Medal coined in 1821. 🌿 The celebrations concluded with the opening of Peru's Natural Reserves: Biodiversity and Landscapes at the #IncaGarcilasoGallery, an exhibition by #SERNANP showcasing the extraordinary beauty, biodiversity, and protected natural heritage of Peru, inviting visitors to discover one of the world's most megadiverse countries. 🌺🇵🇪 Honouring the Heroes of Peru’s 205th Anniversary of Independence 🇵🇪🇬🇧 As part of the commemorations marking the 205th Anniversary of Peru’s Independence, the Embassy of Peru paid tribute to the remarkable figures whose vision and leadership helped shape our nation's path to freedom. 💐 The commemorations began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Westminster Abbey in honour of Admiral Lord Cochrane, commander of the first Peruvian Navy, whose contribution was instrumental to Peru’s struggle for independence. 🌿 A second tribute took place at Belgrave Square, at the monument of General José de San Martín. On this special tribute Ambassador Higueras was accompanied by the Ambassador of Argentina, Mariana Plaza, and the Ambassador of Chile, Diego Paulsen, reflecting the shared history and enduring friendship between our nations. 📖 The Embassy also paid tribute to Juan Pablo Viscardo y Guzmán, one of the earliest advocates of Peru's independence, whose "Letter to the Spanish Americans" inspired generations in the fight for freedom. ✨ Bringing the Peruvian Amazon to Pembridge Hall School 🇵🇪🌳✨ The Embassy of Peru had the pleasure to introduce young learners from Pembridge Hall School to the incredible biodiversity of our Amazon rainforest 🇵🇪🌳. Together, we discovered its rich natural beauty and learned about some of the fascinating animals that call the Amazon home. ✨ WINDOWS TO THE PACIFIC by Elke & Karin Hanspach 🇵🇪🌊 A memorable evening at the opening of #WindowsToThePacific at the Inca Garcilaso Gallery, featuring mixed-media photographic works by Elke Hanspach and ceramic light sculptures by Karin Hanspach, curated by Claudia Trosso. This immersive, multisensory exhibition invites visitors to experience the warmth of Peru’s Pacific coast through photography, ceramics, soundscapes, aromas, and textures. Inspired by memory and nostalgia, it recreates the landscapes, colours, scents, and emotions of home, offering a poetic reflection on migration, belonging, and the enduring connection to one’s roots. During his opening remarks, Ambassador Ignacio Higueras highlighted the power of art to preserve memory and strengthen our connection to Peru, even across continents. He also underscored how exhibitions such as #WindowsToThePacific remind us that culture continues to evolve through new artistic voices, creating meaningful spaces for dialogue, identity, and reconnection. Created from the perspective of two sisters living in Europe, the exhibition explores themes of memory, belonging, and sisterhood, demonstrating how memories of place transcend distance through light, texture, atmosphere, and scent.
