Here we go. This TRA, or ally, or whatever he thinks he is, wants Rowling to be guilty of something, anything. They’ve been searching for years, scrutinising her private life with a magnifying glass until their eyes pop out of their heads. They just cannot find anything on her. But the sheer confusion of the Epstein scandal might just be the ideal condition under which to slip something past your guard. It’s worth a try. He cites documents. April 20th 2018 - A document showing a printed invitation sent out for a coming event. The text runs: “Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and JK Rowling invite you and a guest to the Official Broadway Opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Sunday 22 April 2018. RSVP by Tuesday April 3rd” The event included a grand Hogwarts style banquet, with catering for at least 200 people. So forget any insinuations about a “private dinner”. There was nothing private about this event. Peggy Siegal [Epstein’s publicity agent] emails Colin Callender, one of the organisers, asking for a special favour. Could she have tickets for a special unnamed friend? Callender says he’ll fix it, and duly does. But subsquent email exchanges reveal the friend to be Epstein. But a bit late for Callender to go back on his promise. Epstein gets his tickets. Those are the facts. But what is in the mind of our busy TRA sleuth, Daniel Lismore? He so desperately wants JK to be guilty of something, but there is nothing. All this was authorised and managed by Colin Callender’s entertainment company. The heading of the invitation card is the only place her name appears at all. Why would she have anything to do with this last minute hustling for tickets? The truth is no good for his case, so he tries an outright lie. “She invited him - source - the Epstein files” he blurts, and spits out links. But of course the very last thing he wants you to do is follow the links and verify the narrative. He relies on your being too lazy or too trusting to read those emails and check his claim for yourself. But if you do, you see the lie immediately. It isn’t just that Rowling didn’t invite Epstein to the dinner, it’s that *nobody* did. The reason he needed Peggy Siegal to get him into the event is that he was never on the guest list in the first place. Smear jobs on JKR invariably follow the pattern of conspiracy theorists. It consists of stuff that never adds up. Like most TRAs, Daniel Lismore doesn’t know what he thinks he means, but he thinks he means something. So he’s just pointing and saying, “Look there’s a suspicious thing, and look, there’s another suspicious thing…” And so on. What they rely on is lazy readers, people who take at face value stuff presented as “facts”. They won’t check, won’t read the sources, won’t do a little legwork. But it doesn’t take much. Just ten minutes scrutinising these documents, maybe googling for a couple of names, and you could blow this silly smear job sky high yourself.
