Actual message I received today:
Hey Nikita, I run an elaborate username hacking and reselling operation. I hold basically every dictionary-word username.
I noticed that you seized all of my hacked accounts. Some of them were worth a lot. I was wondering if you could give them back.

Germany
GermanyConnected via Germany App StoreAccount-level information, not a live location or per-post device.
So, these threat actors successfully phished an author of multiple open source NPM packages with a total of 2 billion weekly downloads – including debug, chalk, and ansi-styles.
Since most companies run at least one React or Angular app, they had the opportunity to execute code on millions of systems across thousands of orgs.
And they used it to drop an amateurishly obfuscated crypto stealer, got caught by basic detection rules, and the issue was remediated after 2 hours.
I hope everyone understands how close this was – and can imagine what would’ve happened if someone with real skills had done it.

This is a total fail.
OPSEC is a 5-step process, not a list of apps to install. This isn’t OPSEC it’s basic digital hygiene with a misleading label.
Real OPSEC involves identifying critical information, modeling adversaries, and applying targeted countermeasures. That’s nowhere here.
“Threat modeling” is mentioned in passing but never explained. There's no framework, no discussion of attacker capability or behavior just vague “think about your risks” advice.
Tools are thrown out like candy (Signal, VPNs, Google Drive) with zero context or tradeoffs. There is no mention that VPNs can leak or that Google products are a terrible choice for anyone facing real surveillance threats (or not).
Worse, there’s no talk of emissions control, no browser fingerprinting, no SIM/MAC leaks, no metadata exposure. For journalists and activists, that’s not just a miss, it’s actually dangerous.
And it’s all theory no real-world examples, no case studies, no mission-specific thinking. The whole thing treats infosec, OPSEC, and digital safety like interchangeable terms, which just confuses people who actually need to understand the difference.

I’ve noticed an increase in real life robberies and kidnappings that target people with large crypto portfolios over the last few months.
For example @Amouranth a popular twitch streamer had tweeted in November, a screenshot of her coinbase account with 20 million in Bitcoin . Last night her house was broken into and a group of armed men tried to extort crypto out of her.
Last month co-founder of @Ledger was kidnapped along with his wife and held him for a 100BTC ransom. They tortured him for 2 days, even cutting off his finger.
Stay safe
