To reindustrialists: the commercial market is out there, and it’s either play or get played (by China).

this meeting could have been an MCP invoked search of our company’s internal knowledge base that aggregates data from virtually every service we use behind a unified retrieval layer and provides a streamlined interface for extracting critical business insights
Our robotic welding game has landed. Every minute you spent building intuition in video games will make its way into the real world with advanced manufacturing.
Looked up and realized the robot had been frozen welding in this position for a long time. Braced for the container to be cut in half, I ran to the e-stop, only to find that it was not in fact welding and that the new cell cameras pick up on the pulsed NIR LED lights very nicely
Pretty fascinating, having flashed myself with green lasers more than I've bargained for. There are more pure colors out there than any photo can convey. Nature produces these through repeated filtering, e.g. sunlight passing through leaf after leaf, or deeper and deeper water.
I spent the last month obsessed with finding colors that can't be displayed on a conventional screen. This is what I found. moultano.wordpress.com/2026/…
Lasers produce them through multiplying the same one until it drowns out everything else. All light is a blurry spread, but 520nm (a pure vibrant green laser) is like a knife's edge, so actually achieving that color is...
"...what science fiction movies have understood intuitively all along. The most artificial color in the world, the clearest visual indication that you are interacting with advanced technology, is a green laser beam"

Depth cameras have a hard time achieving micron-level accuracy. 3D scanners do, but are anywhere from $1k to $50k. We're moving towards doing both for $200.
our laser line tracking device is doing quite good:
1. ~$200 cost
2. real time - 7.55 ms latency
3. ±0.014mm height and ±0.049mm width measurements against a calibration gauge
4. completely hands-off calibration and tests in the light box via ai agent

Optics/photonics are underappreciated in engineering. Important link between the physical world and software. Also great fun: somehow intangible yet hands-on.
Take a dichroic mirror. Splits mid-visible light to a camera, lets a blue-green and higher-NIR weld laser pass through
