Politicians at all levels of government are doing too little, too slowly, to rescue our broken city. Let's take action and save the city we love.

‼️ News Alert: Portland Police @ChiefBobDay weighs in strongly for NO DELAY in @multco creating the 24-7 Drop Off Sobering Center. ““We all agree that the greatest need is for a safe and secure location where the police can transport people who are displaying signs of intoxication and unable to care for themselves or a danger to themselves or others,” his letter said.” documentcloud.org/documents/… @MultCoSO @MultCoHealth @PDXFire @iaff43 @PPBPIO – at Portland, OR

Measure 110 didn’t create Oregon’s drug crisis, but it’s making it worse. The legislature must act this month to make hard drugs a crime again and to make drug treatment a mandatory alternative to jail. Take action here: speak4.app/lp/9ff92f/ oregonlive.com/data/2024/02/…

Wonder if economists from other cities ever use "dumpster fire" in their analytic takes. "The last 3 years have been a dumpster fire that changed the nat'l image of Portland. We are coming together to deal w/ it." Portland economy reaches 'new normal' portlandtribune.com/business…

While the crises facing Oregon were depressingly familiar, 2023 offered signs that Oregon has the leaders, public support and momentum to finally make progress. Editorial: oregonlive.com/opinion/2023/…

Portland’s lack of a Sobering Center leaves a big gap, meaning first responders have few options…ER, jail or leave people on the streets. Visiting @lanecountygov Buckley’s Sobering & Detox Center today. Thx to Willamette Family for sharing best practices w/@multco team @EZ_PDX

Stop letting @ORDems ask for more and more money. We have the 3rd highest per capita spending in the nation (HI and AK both high for obvious reasons being far away). And for those of us that live in PDX, this doesn't include grifters at Metro, MultCo, and City taxes.

People are ingesting more powerful drugs and suffering more severe mental illness, and there are too few places for them to recover. Three charts show the problem. wweek.com/news/2023/11/18/th…

Striking detail from Max's sobering center story: Portland supporters sought M110 funding. A volunteer committee that decides who gets 110 $ dismissed center as a "drunk tank," denied request. Washington County sobering center later gets M110 funds. oregonlive.com/portland/2023…

“Portland is a sinkhole. It sucks you in” Homeless woman says many homeless are drawn to Portland but then get sucked in. She believes this was partially done by design due to the abundance of resources and drugs. This is why I call it the Homeless Industrial Complex

Here is a photo of Meieran’s plan, which suggests that real chair for homelessness isn’t about throwing homeless people into government housing without a plan, it’s providing appropriate care for these individuals as they navigate recovery.

Don’t believe the false narratives about how OR was locking up large swaths of minorities for drug possession prior to the decriminalization of drugs. Proponents of Measure 110 played Oregonians. Time to amend 110. @KevinSabet @chiefferraris @LukeNiforatos @People4Portland

Secretary of State’s audit says sos.oregon.gov/audits/Docume… Prior to M110, Oregon had 0 adults in custody /prison for solely drug possession-related offenses. OR Dept. of Corrections noted that existing sentencing guidelines prevented anyone serving time for drug possession alone.

With Portland's street drug crisis drawing national attention and ravaging our 911 system, it is time to send a clear message: #Portland is no longer a place to camp out and do hard drugs. I have filed proposed code changes banning public consumption of meth and fentanyl, to be triggered by a change in state law or a declarative judgement allowing cities to confront this crisis. With the Mayor, we are also bringing a resolution requesting the State Legislature's help. Expect Portland's City Council's first reading on September 6th. If passed, it would be in the hands of the State Legislature to remove barriers for cities to take back their streets. – at Portland, OR

The proposal provides substantial support for both new beds and preserving recovery beds at Bybee Lakes. It also has the possibility of a safe rest pod village, which would be another 50-100 beds. – at Portland, OR

CALL TO ACTION: Multnomah County politicians are failing us. Instead of working to move people safely off the streets, they are sitting on almost $100M in unspent tax dollars meant to help the homeless. A crucial vote should be coming up very shortly, but we need your help now; join us and send a message to @jvegapederson and the rest of the County Commissioners -> speak4.app/lp/276464/
