🧵Once again. I cannot believe this needs to be said. But evidently it does. THERE WAS NO COUP IN KYIV IN 2014. I say this with 100% confidence and this russian misinformation is as tiresome today as it was ten years ago. But for the 4 millionth time, lets dive into why this is absolute bollocks. By definition a coup is "a sudden, violent, and unlawful seizure of power from a government." Maidan was not sudden - it was a grassroots protest, which at its peak had over 250,000 Ukrainians protest from November 2013 until end of February 2014. Maidan was not violent - from November 2013 until January 2014, Maidan was largely peaceful, friendly, positive and aimed at ending corruption in the Ukrainian government. It was not even anti-russian as many russian propaganda mouthpieces like to suggest (look at the picture below, see the russian flag?). It was not until after (1) Yanukovych passed draconian laws which restricted freedom of speech and association, (2) hired titushky to start fights and violence against peaceful protestors, and (3) ordered Berkut to arbitrarily arrest, torture (search up Mykhailo Havrylyuk) and then eventually shoot and kill protesters. Had Berkut not shot and killed the heavenly hundred, Maidan would have remained non-violent. There was no unlawful seizure of power - During the protests, there was no seizure of power. The Yanukovych government remained in power until he burned incriminating documents and fled to russia on February 22, 2014. Thats right. FLED TO RUSSIA. He didn't flee to Donetsk, his home raion where his "voter base" was. He fled to russia. As did many of his members of parliament. He could have stayed. He didn't. The MP's who did not flee voted to remove him from power and hold elections. Democratic elections were held on May 25, 2014 literally THREE MONTHS AFTER YANUKOVYCH FLED. There were however three coups in Ukraine in 2014 - one in Crimea, one in Luhansk and one in Donetsk. In each of these instances armed "little green men" (pictured below) of the russian army invaded, seized, and militarily overthrew legitimately elected local governments. This was lead by Igor Girkin, a russian nationalist and World War I larper. These thugs then captured, tortured, and killed those who resisted. Concurrently they installed puppet governments, headed by russian nationals and fascists (Pavel Gubarev was a russian nazi and member of russian national unity, Denis Pushilin an ethnic russian involved in the russian MMM ponzi scheme, and Valery Bolotov who is from Taganrog, Rostov Oblast) that were subservient to moscow. russians tried and failed to do the same in Kharkiv and Odesa. Thankfully in these cases, Ukrainian police were able to stop these criminal instigators. Any claim that there was a coup in Kyiv is nothing more than a projection to deflect from russia's military violent and illegal invasions of Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk. Regardless of any of the above, the most important point is that the internal domestic events in Ukraine are NONE OF RUSSIAS BUSINESS. Ukraine is an independent, sovereign and free state who can conduct its internal politics as it sees fit. Russia has no legal, moral, ethical or justifiable right to invade Ukraine whether Maidan was a protest or a "coup". Period.
