I have cleaned-up this fascinating autochrome of James Thin (famous for his chain of bookshops), who was born 202 years ago (in Edinburgh on 23rd March 1824), making him (so far as is currently known) the earliest-born person ever to have been photographed in colour. He is seen here in the garden of Ashlea House, Stow, at the age of 86. It is original colour, not colourised.
It was wonderful to have a preview of @desha_osborne's work at SWINC's autumn seminar, and now everyone has a chance to read this vital essay.
Many congratulations to our friend and colleague @desha_osborne on this exciting announcement!

In Leeds for the always excellent @Opera_North and some Victorian architecture
Incredible day of music at @edintfest This morning a virtuosic recital by one of my favourite pianists, Pierre Laurent Aimard. Then a riveting, devastating performance of Julia Wolfe’s oratorio Fire in My Mouth with Marin Alsop @philharmonia and the superb @NYCOScotland
I heard a brief extract of Fire in my Mouth on @JessGillamSax's show on @BBCRadio3 and have wanted to hear it live ever since.
