been digging into the actual origin of Pepe and I think Horace is by far the best narrative here
in 2020 Matt Furie did a Reddit AMA with the creators of Feels Good Man and was asked about the inspiration behind his work
Matt mentioned a bunch of influences, but specifically said he was really inspired by the āAlfeā comics by Ben Jones and then added:
Ā«Pepe even looks like āHoraceā from those comics.": reddit.com/r/MemeEconomy/comā¦
this is the important part
people keep confusing Alfe and Horace
Alfe is one of the characters / the name associated with those early Ben Jones comics, and those characters later became Alfe, Horace and Roba in The Problem Solverz. The Problem Solverz literally follows those three characters: loathsomecharacters.mirahezeā¦
but Matt didnāt say Pepe looks like Alfe
he specifically named Horace
and when you actually put Horace next to Pepe it makes complete sense. The face, eyes, mouth, head shape and overall human/frog looking expression are insanely similar
so the thesis is pretty simple:
Pepe obviously came from a mixture of inspirations, Matt says that himself.
but if youāre looking for the single character with the strongest direct connection to Pepe, Horace is probably the cleanest one because the creator of Pepe literally pointed at him himself and said Pepe looks like him.
imo if people start digging into the ācharacter that inspired Pepeā narrative, Horace is the obvious pick

SP69 is now the second biggest āstock memeā by marketcap:
- $MARSCOIN at 40M
- SP69 at 2.6M
and also the second biggest by @binance tokenized stocks distributions:
- $MARSCOIN did $912K of $SPCX
- SP69 did $232K of $SPY
it makes sense to pair a memecoin with something that only goes up
100 years of data. every crash recovered. every dip bought. the most proven chart in financial history
$SP69 paired with tokenized SP500. your memecoinās liquidity is backed by this chart
the meme might be volatile. the thing backing it never lost

Brian: "In general, we bias toward supporting projects that we believe will create long term customer value."
I guess now's a good time to address an actual rug that was fully supported by @base and Coinbase Ventures last year. It's criminal what happened.
@MemoryProtocol received investment from @cbventures: xitter.cf/MemoryProtocol/status/ā¦. It was a FULL push by Base and its employees including @jessepollak: xitter.cf/jessepollak/status/196ā¦. The launch was hyped up and numerous Base KOLs shilled it before and after launch (check the list below).
MEM launched at $0.03 with 23 ETH in the LP on September 3rd, 2026: basescan.org/tx/0xbf294d7e30ā¦
On November 19th, 25.9 ETH was removed from the LP when the price was still above $0.025 (only a 16% decrease in price since launch). When I checked on December 7th, only around 1 ETH remained in the LP. Now there is 0 ETH in the LP. This was a hard rug.
I dm'd the founder @JackSpallone in December about the LP. No replies, although they were still tweeting updates even after the LP was gone.
Lots of people got rugged including @0xWives who bought over $100k worth of MEM and never sold.
Any answers or accountability for this @brian_armstrong @jessepollak? Investments can go bad, but rugging is something entirely different. On top of this @MemoryProtocol has just been acquired by @vana (July 8th). So holders got rugged but Coinbase Ventures and other VCs and the team get bought out?
Regarding the recent buzz around my profile picture changes and some feelings that the Base community isnāt being supported enough: I appreciate the feedback (even if tough to hear) and I realize you wouldn't take the time to respond unless you cared.
It seems I wasn't clear enough setting expectations for all of you, so let me try and do that now: please donāt follow my personal X account for investment advice or signals around individual coins. Iām simply posting things I find interesting or funny on the internet. I may not even be aware if there is a coin or project attached to the content I'm posting (you should assume I'm not, to be safe). My posts and profile pics are also not endorsements or commitments to anything.
Base is our shot at building foundational infrastructure for financial services where we can all innovate together. That includes tokenized stocks, borrow/lend protocols, stablecoin payments, etc and yes even meme coin trading. I believe in economic freedom, and support you trading whatever you want. Just realize that if you're treating my X account as alpha, you are doing so at your own risk, against my wishes. I would never recommend this.
On the topic of āsupportā from the Base team or Coinbase, there seems to be confusion around this too. There are many tokens we would like to list on our centralized exchange, but can't for compliance and regulatory reasons. If you want Jesse or me to pump your bags or shill certain coins, we're also not going to do that.
Here is what we are committed to on support: we run in-person Base Batches and issue grants to high potential builders, Coinbase Ventures and the Base Ecosystem Fund also invest in the most promising companies building on Base, and we periodically integrate promising Base defi protocols into our products at Coinbase which enhances distribution. I might even mention something on X if I think it's interesting, but again, this is not investment advice. In general, we bias toward supporting projects that we believe will create long term customer value.
You may like this approach or you may not, but either way hopefully it creates clarity going forward, so you can decide what you want to do. I respect your choice, either way.
P.S. I still might post memes if I think they are funny! It's still not investment advice.

thereās people genuinely selling/fudding $BRIAN because the deployer of the coin made $200,000 in creator rewards out of $94,700,000 volume (0.2%)
if thatās something to note, itās actually bullish. base wants people to deploy on @base and they just gave them another reason
sadly, the deployer will earn less and less as the liquidity grows. currently, only 8% of the total liquidity represents the share of the deployer, the other 92% is fees going to $BRIAN holders

you're telling me:
the CTO lead of $SKI got @thebrianjung in sub 10M marketcap before it ran to 400m, got a congressmen to buy it and report it on their taxes and post the meme, and is leading the only dog coin on Robinhood chain that has a team, and it's only 500k marketcap?
$WISHBONE
Surplus just pulled -60%
Here's what just happened
TLDR: Mac mentioned he sold, then gave very bearish comms
reality: He lp'd out 2% of supply between 4-5 mil to guarantee 3 months of runway for the team
around 160k in funds total, meaning around 50k/month in expenses
