At our meeting with the Kwali Area Council Chairman, represented by the Council Secretary, #TheAbujaProject team established a long-term partnership to foster effective local governance, improved accountability systems and better service delivery for the public good.
At the courtesy call on His Royal Highness, Etsu Luka Ayedoo Nizassan III, the Etsu of Kwali, #TheAbujaProject team reemphasized the role of traditional institutions in effective local governance via the implementation of #LGautonomy, fiscal discipline and community inclusion.
In the quest for #LGautonomy, no institution or stakeholder is as critical as the local govt themselves. Those helming its affairs must demonstrate readiness and capacity, to redefine local governance for genuine grassroots dev.

Now that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confronted state governors on the financial autonomy of local governments, the collective efforts of #LGautonomy advocates might pay off sooner than later.
But what are the fundamental instruments that must exist before then?
How do we safeguard #LGautonomy from the abuse culture that permeates governance systems in our country?
Our engagement with the six Area Councils in the FCT has one answer: we must build anti-corruption systems that empower citizens to hold accountable the managers of #LGfunds.
