My coworker's mother passed away last November. She left her modest $190,000 house to him clear and free, no mortgage, completely paid off after thirty years of factory work. He moved into the home in January to finally settle the estate. Two weeks ago, a letter arrived from the state Medicaid estate recovery office. Because his mother spent four months in a rehabilitation facility before she passed, the state quietly slapped a retroactive $114,000 lien against the property title. He called the state health department, frantic, asking how a hospital stay could bankrupt an inherited home that had no mortgage balance. The caseworker sighed and told him: "Federal law requires state programs to claw back healthcare costs from deceased estates. The house cannot be sold or transferred until the balance is cleared in full." He offered to pay a monthly settlement. They said no. The full $114,000 is due in 60 days, or they foreclose on the property at a public auction. A lifetime of working-class savings, wiped out overnight by a retroactive healthcare lien. You don't own generational wealth. You're just holding a property title until the state finds a legal mechanism to repossess it the moment you die.

Today in dystopia, the military-industrial complex is reassuring investors that the wars will indeed be endless.
Asked about the Iran War's effect on defense stocks, Lockheed Martin CEO says: "Investors need to know and understand that this demand is not fleeting — it's permanent."

A timely reminder that leaked Israeli studies found that pushing pro-Israel propaganda to Westerners didnt work & instead they advised spending millions blasting the West with racist Islamophobic content demonizing Muslims instead. I think about that a lot while browsing Twitter

North Carolina university students walked out of classes Thursday, demanding justice for Nolan Wells. Calls for an independent federal investigation into the 18-year-old Black college student’s death in July have spread from Mississippi to Atlanta, New York, and now HBCUs and other schools across the South, after a Jackson County grand jury declared that it found "no evidence" of a crime and declined to bring charges in September. Wells’s body was found near Horn Island after a holiday boat trip with white friends. His family says they have received too few answers regarding the circumstances of his death.

When Trump raided John Bolton last year it was met w/ immediate outrage in the opinion pages of NYT, WSJ, WaPo, Atlantic & New Yorker. Since Rep Omar was raided Mon––and subsquently threatened w/ deportation––these same outlets have been silent. I wrote about this double standard

Margaret Thatcher didn't know the actual definition of socialism and it appears Rand Paul doesn't either. That quote best explains capitalism. (By the way, don't confuse commerce with capitalism. Learn definitions before you comment)

Hundreds marched in the streets near New York City’s Union Square on Wednesday night to demand a federal investigation into the death of Nolan Wells, the 18-year-old Black teen from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, whose body was found off Horn Island after a Fourth of July boat trip with a group of mostly white friends who returned without him. Wells’s family and allies are pushing for answers after a Jackson County grand jury declined to bring charges last month. This week, they released findings from a nearly 300-page forensic report that includes Nolan’s friends’ private Snapchat conversations, intensifying calls for transparency and accountability in his death.

The BAPAfrica Team is clear that AFRICOM is in no way a vehicle for the collective security of Africans, but is instead a vehicle for securing U.S. interests in Africa. Have you watched the #ShutdownAFRICOM Political Education Series? youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

War is taught as inevitable. We challenge that assumption. We educate people about the systems that sustain war and equip communities with the knowledge and skills to build peace without violence. Education is central to everything we do. worldbeyondwar.org/education…

Ben Becker from Break-Through News brilliantly explains how voting under capitalism is an illusion and that improving people’s lives requires changing the economic system: “All of the main decisions in your life, whether it’s who’s setting the rent, the cost of groceries, the job opportunities, or introducing AI—all of this is basically in the hands of a few corporations, and in that sense if you really want to change the economic reality, you have to change the economic system. You can’t just do that by voting.”

We reject the United States’ fabricated narrative of fighting terrorism on the continent, and instead recognize AFRICOM’s vested interest in and documented history of destabilizing African nations.
