Critical thinking must also be applied to ourselves.

“Bad Practice” has won the IJ4EU Impact Awards! One of three winners, the awards celebrate Europe’s top cross-border investigative journalism.
A collaboration between OCCRP, Norway’s VG (@vgnett) and the U.K.’s The Times (@thetimes) with 45+ media outlets, the project exposed systemic failures that allowed doctors who have lost their medical licenses due to major wrongdoing — including sexual assault and botched medical treatments — to relocate and practice in different countries.
Special thanks go to our project partners, whose reporting helped confirm more than 100 doctors banned in at least one country and licensed in another, still just the “tip of the iceberg.”

Uběhlo půl roku od rozhodnutí soudu, dle kterého je stávající právní úprava uchovávání dat z mobilů nezákonná. Snahu o nápravu však nevidíme. Nově po ní volá také Výbor pro lidská práva a moderní technologie, kde byl podnět schválen i přes tuhý odpor.

Morocco’s government has long denied using the Israeli spyware Pegasus to surveil its citizens. Now, a former Moroccan intelligence officer has detailed how Morocco’s domestic intelligence agency used Pegasus to spy on a journalist.
The whistleblower said Morocco’s intelligence agency avoided creating a paper trail tying it to Pegasus by procuring the spyware via a private intermediary company – a tactic confirmed by a second intelligence source.

V právním státě stojí zákony nad všemi politickými představiteli a chrání práva občanů, kteří jsou si před zákonem rovni. Podle nové evropské Zprávy o právním státu si Česko v této oblasti vede dobře, nedostatky má ale například v nastavení pravidel pro korupci či střet zájmů.
Stejně důležité je také ale nepodkopávat důvěru veřejnosti v instituce státu a především v nezávislost justice.
O tom i dalších tématech jsem se dnes bavil s experty na setkání přátel právního státu.
