Paulito

Mateo Chavez (22, AZ Alkmaar) 🇲🇽 Moved to AZ in July 2025 for just €2m, was a rotation option last year. Cementing his spot as the #1 LB, with a goal and 3 assists in the first 6 Eredivisie games. A very solid well-rounded left back. Great defensively, good anticipation and smart tackling. Good technical base with great overall decision making. Uses his body well to shield opposition players away from the ball. Athletic, tenacious, and energetic, yet physically still a step away from the T5L, as we saw vs Sunderland today. Going forward, he's incredibly comfortable finding himself wide or in the half spaces, receiving the ball, and playing it to his teammates. Doesn't overstate his role, understands what needs to be done, and doesn't overdo it. Powerful runner and ball carrier too. Hope to continue see him as AZ's starting LB this season, if he continues the way he's started, a move to a T5L is not far off the cards.
