Very good article. Learning what is unlikely to work is as valuable as successful trials. Our failure-averse culture routinely understates this value. ‘Mindfulness in schools doesn’t improve mental health. Here’s why that’s a positive’ | News | Wellcome wellcome.org/news/mindfulnes…

Enjoying the (small amount of!) thinking space that post-Y11 term six brings. I had a play around with a Y8 lesson from the power unit on the Great Reform Act of 1832. Very much a work in progress so any advice, constructive criticism welcome. I started with this...

On this day in 1989 I grabbed the video cassette containing all the famous pictures of the Tiananmen massacre inc the tank man & walked down to the Beijing Hotel lobby. A cop came over to arrest me but a burst of fire outside distracted him & I slipped past. We got the pictures out via Hong Kong.

So, form tutors out there, does your school run particular programmes during form time? anything interesting/different from norm? How is form time organised?

For those that are interested, here is a link to a Google Drive containing the presentation I did at the HA this weekend, as well as handouts. Hopefully these will give the main headlines to those that were unable to make it! drive.google.com/drive/folde…

I go to a lot of schools, and everyone is focusing on metacognition or dual coding or disciplinary this or curriculum intent that. Then I go into lessons, and teachers are asking questions and students are calling out answers or tchrs are picking ones with hands up. Fix that. >

drive.google.com/drive/folde… Hopefully the above link works to a drive with my Holocaust enquiry. Really proud of it using the UCL textbook so happy for people to peek and pocket if they wish, especially after all the help Twitter has given me over my time!

Still tweaking our new assessment format. For this round, we’re adding an interleaved timeline to improve students grasp of chronology. We’ve weighted scores to favour extended writing/moved from sentence expansion to counter argument practice in our reflection. #historyteacher

Have completely loved teaching our Y7 curriculum this year. We spent lots of time going back and refining stuff that didn’t work/re-planning where necessary. Am super happy with the result. You can download the first 3 themes here. mrvallanceteach.wordpress.co…
