Today, science became a target for Russia.
My heart goes out to the heroes searching for people trapped inside Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences.
As well as to the families and loved ones of the victims of horrific attacks across the country.
We stand with them. And with all Ukrainians.
Europe is working harder than ever to strengthen Ukraine’s defence.
A Russian strike against the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A rescue operation is underway: crews are putting out the fire and searching for people who may have been trapped inside. All services are deployed. Today in Kyiv, a pharmaceutical company and gas stations were also attacked; in Dnipro, a business center; and in other cities and regions, civilian facilities, businesses, and communications infrastructure were targeted as well. Sadly, people have been killed… My condolences to their families and loved ones. Russia will definitely face a response to this. And every one of Ukraine’s partners must see from this terror, from these strikes, that supporting Ukraine means truly supporting people’s lives – supporting the principle that terror must never be normalized, anywhere. Russia must be held accountable for all of this and face real consequences. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine!

Russia struck Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences today and civilian targets in Kyiv, Dnipro and beyond. Civilians were killed. This is deliberate terror against a nation's people, science and economy. Russia must pay for these crimes, and its terror must be stopped.

It means more support for Ukraine’s defence, from training to equipment.
It complements what we are doing through our Ukraine support packages – for the state and for defence.
And more is coming from our side.

51 countries are united today in our support for Ukraine at the UN General Assembly.
Since March 2025, Ukraine has agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire. We call on Russia to finally do the same.
Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, accept a ceasefire, and engage meaningfully in negotiations towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.

I met with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
We addressed diplomatic prospects for ending the US-Iran war and fully re-opening the Strait of Hormuz. There were no tolls or fees for passage before the war, and there should be none after the war.
Navigation must be free and unimpeded, both in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
I also raised domestic repression inside Iran, including the sharp rise in executions and death sentences.
