London, October 29, 1968. Mick Jagger, in costume as the reclusive rock star Turner, at the window of a white Rolls-Royce while filming Performance in Notting Hill. According to the Daily Express, the car was on loan from John Lennon. Directed by Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg, the film cast James Fox as a gangster on the run who hides out in Turner's house, with Anita Pallenberg alongside them. Mick even wore a wig for the role. Performance was shot in 1968, but it didn't open until August 1970 in New York, and Mick's "Memo from Turner" became one of the highlights of the soundtrack.

Saint Augustine Church stained glass window on Thomas Street, #Dublin by Franz Mayer & Co. of Munich. The John's Lane church dates from 1862 and was designed by Edward Welby Pugin, the son of the celebrated architect Augustus Pugin who designed London's Palace of Westminster.

Un poète français a décrit le principe du phonographe sept mois avant qu'Edison n'enregistre sa voix. Il n'en a jamais construit un seul.
Il s'appelait Charles Cros. Il est né à Fabrezan, dans l'Aude, le 1er octobre 1842.
Poète, il fréquente Verlaine et Rimbaud. Son monologue « Le Hareng saur » fait rire les cabarets de Montmartre, comme le Chat noir.
Mais Cros est aussi un inventeur autodidacte. En 1867, il présente un télégraphe automatique à l'Exposition universelle de Paris.
En 1869, il décrit un procédé de photographie en couleurs. Au même moment, un autre Français, Louis Ducos du Hauron, a la même idée.
Le 30 avril 1877, il dépose un pli cacheté à l'Académie des sciences. Une enveloppe fermée, qui sert à prouver la date d'une idée.
Dedans, le principe d'une machine qui enregistre la voix et la fait réentendre. Il l'appelle le paléophone, la « voix du passé ».
En octobre, un abbé présente l'idée de Cros dans un journal. Il lui trouve un autre nom : « phonographe ».
Le 6 décembre 1877, aux États-Unis, Thomas Edison enregistre sa propre voix. Il récite une comptine pour enfants.
Deux jours plus tard, à Paris, l'Académie ouvre le pli de Cros.
Trop tard. Edison obtient son brevet en février 1878, et c'est son nom que le monde retient.
Cros meurt à Paris le 9 août 1888, à 45 ans, pauvre et presque oublié.
Depuis 1947, une académie décerne chaque année des prix du disque en France. Elle s'appelle l'Académie Charles-Cros.
