Bloody freaking hell! CBC is giving Chrystia Freeland free promotion for her book Unreliable Boyfriend, with a soft interview that treats her like a wronged heroine instead of the finance minister who helped run one of the most reckless fiscal blowouts in modern Canadian history The teaser segment dwells on her hurt feelings: the Zoom call where Trudeau removed her as finance minister was “the third-worst day of her life.” It covers cabinet crying, tissue boxes, and tone-policing. What it largely skips is the reason she used to quit Hours before delivering the Fall Economic Statement, she resigned and accused Trudeau of “costly political gimmicks” and failing to keep “our fiscal powder dry.” That same statement showed a $61.9 billion deficit for 2023-24 — more than 50% above the $40.1 billion cap she had set herself McGill’s Christopher Ragan: “If we describe her primary job as getting our fiscal house back in order after COVID, I’m not sure she did it.” The Fraser Institute noted roughly $470 billion in added federal debt under her watch, with interest costs climbing toward $50+ billion a year. She never really pulled back on spending once the emergency ended, and the government repeatedly blew its own fiscal rules She spent years defending large deficits and high spending. When Trudeau piled on holiday GST breaks and $250 cheques, she somehow suddenly discovered prudence and walked away rather than own the numbers? CBC’s audience is not as blind as this interview assumes. Canadians watched the deficit targets get missed in real time, watched public-sector headcount grow far, far faster than the population, and watched interest costs balloon Meanwhile, the Carney government that followed has not reversed course. Its first budget projected a $78.3 billion deficit — larger than most non-pandemic Trudeau-era shortfalls — with further debt accumulation planned. Reports that the trajectory is “the same or worse” are not hard to find A 45-minute conversation that appears to from the promotion to prioritize personal grievance over the $50 billion per year hole and broken fiscal targets on the backs of Canadian taxpayers is not journalism. It’s blatant book promotion @piya

All the individuals who were close to Justin Trudeau and stuck with him for a decade (or most of it), and who are NOW saying publicly how horrible / unqualified he was... ...owe an explanation to all Canadians as to why they didn't speak up when it would have mattered.

Now even mayors are copying Mark Carney. The answer to ineffective and inefficient government bureaucracy should not be creating new bureaucracy to sit on top of old ones. Canadian taxpayers can't keep funding new bureaucrats to fix problems ignored or created by old bureaucrats. Enough! Instead of adding new offices, tiger groups or whatever other name politicians can dream up, fix the broken departments or fire the ineffective bureaucrats. Don't keep adding new ones.
Transit isn't a luxury. It's an essential service. I take the bus and CTrain to work because I want to see what needs fixing firsthand. And I want the people who depend on transit to have a stronger voice. We're building a 12-person transit tiger team. Join us! calgarytransit.com/tcn

And he dared attack Jimmy Pattison and others to kick off his campaign? Staggering hypocrisy
Just now, David Eby confirms that he has his kids in $10/day taxpayer-subsidized daycare. Approx. only 10% of BC daycare spots offer $10/day daycare. Most families who want in can't get a spot. As Premier, Eby earns $227k/year. Eby's wife is a doctor. Their household income is likely well over half a million dollars per year. We don't resent British Columbians who are successful (we want more people to succeed). But where there are wait lists, surely a wealthy family like Eby's shouldn't be taking advantage of $10/day daycare. Think about a working single mother? David Eby deserves the spot more than her?

The Departed effectively marked the end of Jack Nicholson’s illustrious career. This was Jack’s swan song. A film that released 20 years ago yesterday, I don’t mean any disrespect to the two films Jack did after this movie. But this is really the last time Nicholson gave us a true “Jack” performance. Jack was 69 when he made this film & unlike many actors in the game today, he stepped away on his own terms - those terms included working with Martin Scorsese. Is there a better possible way for a legendary actor to go out than this?

Odd that a story like this should appear only in foreign media. I've been waiting for Canadian MSM to explore how CF veterans feel about the contempt in which they are held by the Trump admin. Good to see someone's done the work. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…

Why are you doing this @fordnation
Local public hospital operating rooms and imaging clinics are sitting unused because they are not given adequate funding. This while private clinics have been added and have not reduced wait times for the majority @OttawaCitizen ottawacitizen.com/news/ottaw…

Important question regarding airport privatization. In making his announcement, the Prime Minister specifically talked about the global experience with airport privatization so Canada doesn't have to reinvent the wheel. Canada can easily look at best practices worldwide, from London's Heathrow Airport to Rome's Fiumicino for examples of fully privatized airports. It can also look at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is partially privatized. Protecting consumers and the national interest must be paramount in any privatization. Unfortunately, this does not exist in Canada today, where Canada's "not-for-profit" airport authorities have virtually unlimited powers to set, levy and increase fees, rates and charges, and to undertake multi-year, multi-billion-dollar and seemingly interminable construction projects without meaningful input or consultation from airport users. The key will be enabling legislation and regulations to ensure privatized airports are held to high, best-in-class standards so any efficiencies and savings flow to consumers. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
If you opposed privatization because it could increase costs and weaken public accountability, what specific protections make Carney’s airport proposal acceptable? The party announcing it isn’t a protection. #cndpoli

I can never tell whether Conservatives support the free market, or not. Like, are our public airports current models of ease and economic efficiency?

Your 72-hour „Special Military Operation” in Ukraine has lasted for more than four years now. You’ve lost 300,000 people, 12,000 tanks, 35 ships, 440 aircraft, 350 helicopters. Your economy is in shambles. Our GDP per capita is almost double yours. Poland is a member of NATO and the EU, you are a pariah state. We are a democracy, you are a genocidal regime. You attempted to subjugate Poland in 1920. Then in 1939, in cahoots with Nazi Germany. Poland survived, the Soviet Union didn’t. Keep trying, comrades.
Putin adviser Nikolai Patrushev says the state of Poland would cease to exist within two to three days if it entered a war against Russia.

This is the banality of evil. A shameless, bloodless psychopath manipulating world events for profit because his mafia family married Trump’s mafia family and he thinks it’s his birthright. What he’s earned is a fucking prison cell for life—at best.
Kushner again blames Ukraine, making the case that if only Putin would be given "what he wants to achieve", "we'd have a deal" and the Trump family could finally get their hands on that cash while Ukraine is genocided.

Jared Kushner is a disgusting human being. He also speaks like an idiot, has idiotic thoughts, and honestly, does he have dementia? What’s going on with the blinking and mouth movement? This man is a corrupt idiot. Disgusting. Also, he has weak hair.
🇺🇸🇺🇦 Jared Kushner on Ukraine: President Putin's laid out his line of what he wants to achieve. If Ukraine, you know, wanted to withdraw to that line, then obviously, you know, we have the rest of the deal set up and put together. Ukraine right now does not want to do that. The economic costs of war are tremendous. I said this when I was in Ukraine. War is just negative sum and everyone loses from war and I think that economics and business and peace is very, very positive sum.

Truly remarkable the mania that led Canadians to give power to this divisive, extremist, unserious clown. It will take decades to recover.
Canadians gave this man a full decade of control over the country. 10 years of voter support. Stories.
