Celebrating Leaders in Pathology Professor Pedram Argani, MD Pathology advances through individuals who do more than diagnose disease. They refine classifications, challenge assumptions, mentor future specialists, and create knowledge that changes how disease is understood. As part of Global Pathology Review’s “100 Leaders • One Global Profession • A Shared Vision for Better” edition, we celebrate Professor Pedram Argani, MD, an internationally respected pathologist associated with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Professor Argani is widely recognised for his contributions to surgical and genitourinary pathology, particularly in the study and classification of distinctive renal and other tumour entities. His work reflects the evolution of modern pathology from morphology alone toward a more integrated approach combining histology, immunohistochemistry, genetics, and molecular understanding. His contribution goes beyond individual discoveries. Through research, teaching, fellowship training, and academic collaboration, he has helped strengthen diagnostic knowledge and influence the development of future generations of pathologists. Leaders such as Professor Argani remind us that pathology is not simply the interpretation of what is seen under the microscope. It is a continuously evolving science shaped by observation, curiosity, evidence, collaboration, and the willingness to redefine what we know about disease. As digital pathology, genomics, precision medicine, and artificial intelligence transform the profession, the foundations created by accomplished physician-scientists become even more important. Technology can accelerate diagnosis, but its value ultimately depends on the depth of pathological knowledge built over decades of rigorous research. Through this special edition, Global Pathology Review celebrates 100 distinguished professionals from across the world whose careers have contributed to diagnosis, research, education, innovation, and patient care. Different specialties. Different institutions. Different journeys. One global profession. One shared vision for better. We are proud to celebrate Professor Pedram Argani, MD, and his contribution to the global pathology community. 🎗️ Cover reveal — Global Pathology Review, September 2026. Every field has a handful of names that become shorthand for the discipline itself. In genitourinary pathology, one of them is Jonathan I. Epstein, MD. His work on Gleason grading and the ISUP Grade Groups changed the language of prostate cancer — the way it is graded, reported, and acted upon in every pathology department in the world. Behind that sits a body of work few can match: nearly 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, 21 books, 89 GU pathology fellows trained (many now leaders themselves), and lectures across more than 40 countries. He is past President of the International Society of Urological Pathology and a founding member of the Genitourinary Pathology Society, and today provides expert second opinions on complex urologic cases with Advanced Uropathology in New York. We are honoured to feature him alongside 99 remarkable pathologists from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America. One hundred leaders. One global profession. A shared vision for better. Coming soon. To know more, visit globalpathologypublications.… Brought to you with Path-iQ — pathiq.in | pathiq.cloud #Pathology #100Pathologists #Uropathology

🎗️ Cover reveal — Global Pathology Review, September 2026. Some careers open doors; a few build entirely new corridors. Tamara Lotan, MD has done both. The Rose-Lee and Keith Reinhard Professor in Urologic Pathology and Professor of Pathology, Urology, and Oncology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Lotan is Director of Research at the Brady Urological Institute — the first pathologist and the first woman ever to hold that position — and Co-Director of the Schaufeld Program for Prostate Cancer in Black Men. Her laboratory has spent two decades teaching tissue to speak: predictive and prognostic biomarkers for prostate cancer, PTEN and mTOR signalling in tumorigenesis, and the molecular contributors to prostate cancer health disparities. More than 200 publications later, her work reaches from the bench to the sign-out room to the patients who benefit without ever knowing her name. We are honoured to place her on our cover, alongside 99 remarkable pathologists from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America. One hundred leaders. 🎉 Celebrating Excellence in Pathology — Janis Taube, MD, MSc A diagnosis tells you what a disease is today. Dr. Taube’s work tells the field what it will be able to see tomorrow. At Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Janis Taube, MD, MSc holds a rare combination of titles — Professor of Pathology, Dermatology, and Oncology, Director of the Dermatopathology Division, and Co-Director of the Tumor Microenvironment Laboratory at the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. But titles only hint at the scope of what she’s built. Her research on the PD-1/PD-L1 axis helped the oncology world answer a question that once seemed unanswerable: which patients will actually respond to immunotherapy. That question now shapes treatment decisions for cancer patients everywhere. She didn’t stop at the question. She built the tools to answer it — co-developing AstroPath, a multispectral imaging platform that lets researchers map dozens of immune signals across entire tumor specimens at once. It’s the kind of contribution that doesn’t just advance a single study; it hands an entire field a new way of seeing. Add to that her role mentoring the next generation of pathologists, her editorial and scientific advisory contributions, and a body of work cited across tens of thousands of publications — and a clear picture emerges: this is a career built on turning uncertainty into insight, one tumor microenvironment at a time. Congratulations, Dr. Taube. The patients who benefit from more precise immunotherapy today are benefiting, whether they know it or not, from questions you asked years ago. 👏 #Pathology #Dermatopathology #TumorImmunology #JohnsHopkins #WomenInMedicine #PathologyLeadership #Immunotherapy

🎗️ Cover reveal — Global Pathology Review, September 2026. There are pathologists who sign out cases, and there are pathologists who change how the cases are understood. @LisaRooperMD , MD belongs to the second group. Associate Professor of Pathology at Johns Hopkins, Director of the Head & Neck Pathology Service, and Director of Surgical Pathology Operations, Dr. Rooper has spent her career on the tumours that trouble the rest of us most — salivary, sinonasal, and neuroendocrine neoplasms — helping to define, classify, and give prognostic meaning to entities that once had none. More than 190 publications carry her name, and her editorial work helps set the reference standard the profession learns from. We are honoured to place her on our cover. And we are honoured that she shares this issue with 99 other remarkable pathologists from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America. One hundred leaders.
