Reminder to white people: You will continue to mess up re racism. So continue to be teachable, open to correction from POC, and vigilantly monitor yourself for defensiveness and white fragility. You never "arrive" as an ally, you must continually *practice* allyship.

White people: We gotta talk about burn out. You aren’t conditioned to be thinking about race this much because of your privilege. We need you to do all you’re doing today, tomorrow, and until the end of time. Let’s talk about ways to focus on current & systemic change. 👇🏽

Do you want to support Black creatives but have no money? Request books by Black authors at your local public library! It's free, supports Black authors, and provides diverse stories for young readers. May I suggest starting with @rosiesrambles's A Song of Wraiths and Ruin?

I forgot to include “Notes from the Field” in my list of resources yesterday. It’s on HBO but I also discovered they have it now available on YouTube. It is written by and starring Anna Deavere Smith. Notes From The Field: Full Film | HBO youtu.be/r3uVnftc_Vo

An excellent dive into improving empathy through reading.
"For anyone with any amount of privilege, the act of sitting down and looking through the lens of someone different is a direct path to empathy. " rewire.org/diversity-reading…

Also if non-Black parents would just talk to their kids about what is happening and EXPLAIN what that pause of broadcasting meant, maybe the kids would freaking get it. Black kids don't have the luxury of being blissfully ignorant about this, neither should your kids.
Nickelodeon stopping broadcast to show nine minutes of the words 'I can't breathe' so the sound effect of laboured breathing. People are complaining that it was unnerving, scary, uncomfortable. Thats the damn point.

If you, like me, have been struggling to find the right thing to say and realize you still have so much more work to do to understand your own privilege, use it as fuel to learn, listen, and do better. The journey never stops. Not next week. Not 10 years from now. Not ever. (1/4)

happy pride month y’all !! dont forget that marsha p. johnson, a black trans woman, threw the first brick at stonewall and spent most of her life advocating for lgbt rights. the community would not be here without her so as you’re celebrating this month, remember her !!

Published authors, if any of you would like to mentor some of the 2020/21 Black YA authors, please DM me. Lifting Black voices and stories is needed at this time. Thank you so much to those who have volunteered ❤️
Replying to @deefalaye
I’d also like to know if there are any previously debuted / published authors interested in mentoring some of our 2020/21 Black YA authors over an hour long one-on-one phone / virtual call.

Covid is still really and I want y’all to be safe! For those at protests, a few tips from a nurse after attending last night: bring an extra mask. Yours will get hot and sweaty so switching it out halfway through is smart. If you have a cloth mask throw a bandana on top too!
