Was nice to come across this in @romero’s book, Doom Guy, following the recent @DOOM and @LifeIsStrange announcements. Small worlds.
Late to school in 1993 because of Doom and late to work in 2023 because of Sigil II, thanks @JohnRomero.

After the creation and release of Doom, John Carmack wanted to allow people to more than simply modify elements of the game - he released the actual engine and gave people the tools to truly make what they wanted. #mastersofdoom #doom #johncarmack #johnromero #idSoftware
Also - aside from cars and all that shit, when the dough first rolled in Carmack used 100k to bail an old friend out of jail. Romero gave his prized car to the owner of a Mexican restaurant he frequented, and sent his grandparents on a vacation.
