After 15 years, I pastor a church with 75 members with an annual budget of $103,000.
Pastors, let no one measure the significance of your ministry based on the amount of people and money in your church.
Pastors, it’s Monday. Don’t resign.
Instead…
1) Drink some good coffee.
2) Lift something heavy.
3) Pray honestly.
4) Be Still and Silent.
5) Sit with a safe friend.
Bivocational pastors at your other job, apply these in your short breaks and lunch hour.
Well done, pastor. You were faithful to pour out what you had. That was enough.
Now, let it go to Jesus. Sleep well.
I preached this morning at Throne of Grace Community Church in Louisville, KY where my good friend, Jay Roy, is the pastor who planted this church 14 years ago.
A sweet, warm congregation who is a faithful supporter of @practicalsheph @pracshephesp @pracshepwomen

I attended the funeral today of a 95 year-old Deacon in the church I pastored for 17 years. The first several years were brutal. We fought and frustrated each other for 5+ years. And yet by my 10 year anniversary, we were trusted friends.
Thanking God for his redeeming work.
This was a special conversation. Thankful for Austin’s investment in me throughout the years.
Latest podcast @practicalsheph as @PastorCroft and I talk with former pastor Austin Walker from the UK. Austin pastored for nearly 50 years and has recently written about counsels learned from a long ministry

Pastors, if you will stop using attendance and financial reports as the metric to evaluate your ministry, you will probably find yourself less discouraged.
Instead, use spiritual fruit, pastoral faithfulness, and perseverance to evaluate the usefulness of your ministry.
Last ministry assignment in Colorado is to speak twice at the Colorado Baptist Pastor’s Conference in Denver, CO today. Getting started in about an hour.
I would welcome your prayers.
I preached this morning at Calvary Redeeming Grace Church in Greeley, Colorado, where my longtime good friend, Adam Grusy is Pastor and doing an incredible work of revitalization in this church.
God is a work in this place. @practicalsheph
We made it to Denver! Preaching Sunday then speaking at the Colorado Baptist Pastor’s Conference on Monday.
Excited to have my oldest Daughter, Abby with me to hike, see sites and visit friends tomorrow before all the ministry begins. @practicalsheph
Pastors, if you are faithfully preaching God’s word every Sunday and laboring to shepherd, disciple, and care for your people, then you are doing faithful pastoral ministry.
Use this paradigm to evaluate your ministry instead of some high bar of results that God alone brings.
Drove over to Lexington today to see one of my guys. Meet Isaiah Thomas, a former @SBTSrevitalize intern. He’s the associate pastor at Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington Kentucky.
God is at work here. And Isaiah is doing a good, faithful work in this place.
When a pastor faces opposition, it could be the result of the pastor’s impatience to pick the wrong battles out of personal preference.
Or, the opposition could mean you’re in the right place, doing what God sent you there to do, and the enemy hates it.
Pray for wisdom.
Pray for your pastor today. He may be experiencing a severe spiritual attack from the enemy as he prepares to preach and lead tomorrow.
And is tempted to think it is something else.
I had an incredible experience in Samoa. Pastors facing so many challenges and need training, care, and support. Thankful for the 2 days with this amazing, faithful group of pastors and wives.
On a plane headed home and trying to avoid hurricanes as I do. @practicalsheph

We have had a very fruitful and engaging first day with these pastors, pastor’s wives, and leaders from the local churches here in American Samoa.
So much need here. Keep praying for us. @practicalsheph @churchinhardplc @hpbaptist
Pastors, an essential step to caring for our souls is acknowledging when we are truly weary and can’t do this all by ourselves.
Something happens in the soul when we relent and grace comes in.
Reach out to a safe, trusted person in your life if you need someone.
I preached this morning at Central Baptist Church and Matthew preached at Miliana Baptist Church both in Hawaii and being led by 2 faithful pastors, Dalton and Dennis.
