While this is an egregious example of a bad decision made by a translation, I think that punctuating it with "mtl is therefore better" would hold more water if machine translators like deepl didn't have a tendency to randomly just not translate parts of the text.

I recommend the Genki books for those just starting out with Japanese. You’re gonna wanna focus vocab, but don’t slack on grammar. Your goal should be to reach a baseline competency to start consuming native material as soon as possible. You won’t believe the things you’ll learn
