ALT Examples of histopathological lesion types and their correspondent quantitative MRI (qMRI) (MTR, magnetization transfer ratio; MWF, myelin water fraction; QSM, quantitative susceptibility mapping; qT1, quantitative T1; FA, fractional anisotropy; RD, radial diffusivity). (A) Inactive lesion, not showing presence of inflammatory cells; (B) Active lesion, containing numerous microglia/macrophages also in the center; (C) Chronic active lesion, showing presence of activated microglia/macrophages at the edge; (D) Remyelinated lesion (shadow plaque), showing uniformly pale myelin stain across the whole lesion area.

A new multicenter study in multiple sclerosis found that Gd contrast agent increases diagnostic sensitivity of the Central Vein Sign on 3T FLAIR* scans
The work was led by Drs. @PascalSati of @CedarsSinaiMed, @DanOntaneda of @CleClinicMD, and @danielsaloreich of @NINDStrials
The postcontrast FLAIR* sequence should be considered for central vein sign evaluation in future investigational trials and clinical practice.
