Lastly, not really a brew, but the card Failure // Comply in Living End.
Its a great way to beat Consign to Memory and just generally flexible sb cards vs weird stuff where you need to take out some cards.
🧑🍳 Inside PMayne's RC brews thread:
We start with this Emry/Goryo/Griselbrand shell.
I tested a lot of Emry combo shells because I think the Cam/Station/Mox/Emry combo is a lot better than it looks. Sure its 4 cards, but all of them helps each other and are relevant cards even when you dont have all 4.
I wanted to utilize that more by making Grinding Station an actual good draw, thats when I added Goryo's Vengeance. The initial goal was to give Emry redundancy, bringing it back haste for combo. Then I kept adding more and more Griselbrands.
Realized it should be plan A so I went with 4 Grisel 4 Goryo. Its actually one of the best Grisel deck because of your 8 moxes. You can very likely combo the turn you grisel (bunch of mox, goryo emry, or skateboard, win), or just hold rebukes, win next turn.
Then Solitary Cell was spoiled and it seemed like the perfect glue for the deck.
Downsides are having to play a rainbow mana.
Final consensus?
- Cell is a bit awkward in the format, sorcery removal sucks, and Wrath of the Skies killing then getting back the permanent is rough.
- I was fixated on Saga/Moxes/Skateboard decks because it stole so many games, but I ended up realizing it only really happens vs Prowess, most other decks can stop it without blinking.
- There are definetly awkward draws where you do nothing for a bit, but thats the downside of having such powerful synergies. Ultimately I strongly believed I should not play a deck that does not function that often.
Mill?
When Cruel Calculations got spoiled I immediately thought of a mill shell. But instead of using mill as a win con, its mostly just an enabler for broken stuff such as Visions of Beyond and Cruel Calculations.
You play less cards that do "nothing" such as pure mill cards. Instead theyre all there to enable drawing into a bunch of free spells.
Incidentally, you win through milling your opponent.
I thought Symmetry was pretty clever, it forces opp to search for Trap, its Imperial Seal because you mill the opp tutored card. It adds redundancy.
Ultimately, it just seemed like drawing 13 cards on turn 3 wasnt near good enough to win a Modern game. The format is way too powerful, you need a crazy good follow up, and most importantly, you need to get to turn 3 more efficiently than what the rest of the deck does.
In the same vein of Saga decks, here's Emrakul Pro Skater 5:
With the idea of Broodscale combo becoming more of a plan B, what happens if you cut it and instead make Saga better, and make your deck faster?
Thats how I arrived to this deck.
Everflowing Chalice was a key finding in adding more 0's for Mox and a Talisman like card.
The deck performed fairly well, its an amalgation of the most broken cards in Modern.
Final consensus?
- Much like previous lists I posted, the Saga/Skateboard plan only really works vs Prowess.
- You are generally faster than Broodscale on the Emrakul/Mycospawn front, but you suffer from a bit of Bauble/Mox variance.
- While you sometimes completely ignore Wrath of the Skies, some draws loses to it and you have more or less no control over that.
In the end I asked myself if I performed that well with the deck because of the Eldrazi shell, and therefore it would feel just as good if I played Broodscale? I thought so. The artifact package feels good when it works, but adds unecessary variance I think.
Id suggest trying it out tho, because I firmly believe you are better vs Prowess than the average Eldrazi deck, and likely better in Eldrazi mirrors.
Next up: Fiddlebender Combo with a LOOP
Early in testing Saga/Emry decks, I was determined to find a way to actually combo with Fiddlebender as opposed to just using it as a toolbox.
After literally 12 hours of @scryfall, I was able to find a deterministic way to kill that only requires Fiddlebender and a Mox:
1. Sac Mox -> Cam, untap Fiddle
2. Sac Cam -> Dune Drifter, bring back Mox, untap Fiddle
3. Sac Dune Drifter -> Galadhim Bow, untap Fiddle
4. Sac Bow -> Brightglass Gearhulk, get other Mox + Cam
5. Play Cam, untap Fiddle
6. Sac Gearhulk -> Paradox Engine
7. Play Mox you got from gearhulk, untap everything.
8. Sac Cam -> any 2 drop
9. Sac any 2 drop -> Essence Reliquary, make infinite mana, get either 2nd Dune Drifter + Station to mill opponent, or Cryogen Relic, draw deck and mill opponent either through playing bunch of artifacts or Emry + Skateboard + Cam + Station + Mox.
Decklist above is missing 2nd Dune Drifter or Cryogen Relic, Drifter is easier to accomplish on MTGO, Boommobile even easier but way worse. Choose your weapon.
Final consensus?
- Requiring to untap with a 2/2 for 2 in Modern is very unreliable.
- You have to play a few terrible cards in your deck.
- Saga beatdown plan, as stated in previous post because and less and less good in the format.
Im still kinda impressed that I was able to come up with a 1 card and a half combo loop.
@MatthewLNass are you proud? 👉👈

Another 1 win short of making it to the PT :(
Had a great time nonetheless, Magic is great. I particularly loved testing a million brews the last 2 months.
I will share them this week, stay tuned, it'll be worth it, trust me 😂
I played this deck by @gabnassif, 4-0 on first attempt in Play-Ins and lost win and in (6-3) today. Format is broken af, deck felt absurd.
I lost all games I resolved Doomsday today because a rope is not enough time for my smooth brain 🫠
