I'm definitely not anti-achievement and never criticized real achievements, including by Elon. I even own two Teslas. I do expose marketing stunts that, while cool on the surface, are not the achievements they are claimed to be. Compressed air thrusters might give you acceleration boosts in any direction. They might even make your car hover for a couple of seconds if you accept replacing the passenger seat by a 400 liter high-pressure air tank. But they are not a path to actual flying cars. The same way Burt Rutan's SpaceshipOne was never going to be a path to orbital flights (just bunny hops out of the atmosphere). I am anti-Musk when it comes to politics. His political actions, the massive dissemination of disinformation through X and other channels, and his support for authoritarian regimes and racist ideas have the effect of weakening democracy and weakening human decency and social progress around the world.

Not even Black Mirror could predict this level of dystopia. A man found out his job interviewer was AI, so he let his own AI take over and walked away, leaving both AIs stuck in an endless goodbye loop.

Not just Meta but also Google now claiming rights to data mine or scrape any source or product for further development of their AI if they want to appear in Google’s traditional search results. Sounds like a huge anti-trust violation as well as privacy violation no? @linamkhan

Excellent reporting by @NiemanLab making ALL aware. Meta claims it's merely consolidating existing terms and won't change its crawling. Then why demand sweeping permissions in a binding contract? Why explicitly authorize AI training? Words matter. 3/5 niemanlab.org/2026/10/metas-…

Yup and when Weisberg ran the SCA board it riddled with corruption & was accountable to no one except him and Eric Adams. Good try. susanedelman2.substack.com/p…
Who is in charge of education in New York State, anyway? It's a really hard question to answer — and therein lies a huge problem, writes Daniel Weisberg. vitalcitynyc.org/make-the-go…

You can’t even say that these investments are centered around protecting incumbent Democratic governors. The DGA is spending 8x as much money in Maine’s open governor’s race — where Hannah Pingree is up by 11-12 points in the polls, and most race raters have it listed as Safe/Solid Democratic — as they are in Texas.
I don’t think people fully grasp how much truly evil shit that affects so many of the most vulnerable people in this country could be blocked if Texas had a Dem governor. I get that the DGA is cash-strapped, but dumping 3.25x more money into Oregon than Texas is indefensible.

First these AI companies stole from news media, then they stole from artists, now they’re stealing from mathematicians’ work - “whole research programs wiped out’ & careers “destroyed” by recent @OpenAI dump of papers

ChatGPT for Teens is unsafe for kids to use. Period. The Youth AI Safety Institute at @CommonSense published a new risk assessment which found the product poses an Unacceptable Risk. Tech companies have to do better when it comes youth safety. More here: commonsensemedia.org/article…

I still think we need to have cameras in every classroom, the same way all police are supposed to have body cams. No one can tell me we couldn't get a couple of Moms to monitor every day, perhaps at double speed, what a teacher does in her child's classroom. We know that many of them are doing questionable things. If we don't find anything, all well and good. The cameras will have worked to protect children from outright sexual grooming. But the cameras would have an additional benefit. If some teachers are continuing to use discriminatory ideologies in their classrooms, they could be discovered and made to explain themselves. This could be the key to getting the Wokeness out of classrooms.

Powerful statement from mathematicians around the world. “We urge mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAI and to return to a vision of science that centers human understanding.” The backlash to AI is only just beginning. terrytao.wordpress.com/2026/…

yup. Google search acts like an AI chatbot & is dangerous to kids, threatening their learning and their mental health. Also as most chatbots data-mine users’ personal information, including Google search it likely violates NY student privacy law classsizematters.org/call-go…

OpenAI fired me last week, along with two of my safety colleagues. I was given one reason: that I accessed an executive's email. I want to say this plainly, because too many of OpenAI’s history is smoke and mirrors when people disappear:
Two other safety researchers and I were fired from OpenAI last week. We wrote this letter to leadership. I believe we were fired for prioritizing safety over the near-term interests of OpenAI as a corporation.

correction - NYC AI czar, Jiahao Chen, resigned last week - apparently from frustration. What's going on with the lack of focus on this issue, @nycmayoroffice? Annual mandated reports are also absurdly incomplete. xitter.cf/Annie_McDonough/status…
NEW: The city's AI czar, Jiahao Chen, resigned last week. It's poor timing, coming just ahead of the City Council's AI showdown on Monday. Details on that, and who will actually be testifying on behalf of the city, in Heard Around Town today.
