Technology takes jobs that suck and replaces them with jobs that are cool. This has always been true. What AI forces us to acknowledge is that today lots of jobs make you feel important, but are actually bullshit that wastes everyones time. Why is it impossible to build physical infrastructure? Because there is an army of 'environmental coordinators' whose job is to make everyone feel good about themselves and do 'stakeholder engagement' and answer emails and generate meetings. This is retarded and dumb. In the past almost everyone was a farmer, now almost no one is a farmer, yet there is more food than ever. We have constructed a large society where the majority of people do not have to think for themselves to survive. Get a degree in accounting, be an accountant. Or law. Etc. A few lucky people find a vocation, a calling. Most find a means to an end. With AI, any job that is script-following can be replaced. People will have to start thinking for themselves and making decisions. AI is bad at making decisions and good at recalling information. LLM's do not reason, they recall. We will find that the net-net is, yes, many jobs go away, just like machines replaced physical labor. Now, everyone has to think for themselves. This is uncomfortable for a consumer economy  predicated on hacking dopamine and wage slavery. Is this a labor catastrophe? "Labor" is another word for "person who is told what to do." It is a good thing for that to end, because it's not necessarily the case that most humans are unagentic idiots, just that we've bred them to be that way to work jobs that suck and dull the human spirit. The cactus grows for the desert. People that think for themselves out of necessity are dangerous, because you can't feed them lies, toxic garbage, microplastics, and propaganda forever to keep them from noticing all the outrageous lies and criminal activity going on at large scale in the world. People who get used to making decisions, and creating new things, rather than just following a script they are handed, will realize all scripts are made up. This is called 'waking the fuck up' and thinking for yourself. This will be a very disruptive time for society, but only because so much of society is predicated on stick-and-carrot emotional manipulation and dumbing down of the population on the whole to keep them ignorant and placated, and puffing up their egos with fake-bullshit jobs while the world goes to shit around them. Housing doesn't need to be affordable, because you're an environmental coordinator and capitalism is evil anyway, therefore being poor is a virtue. Anyway. This will take a while, probably a decade or more.

The universe certainly seems like an engine for maximizing the total experience of itself, which seems suspiciously like something God would do.
