We have an archaic assessment system based on standardized tests that don't begin to measure the full scope of what a student knows and is able to do.
These tests are flawed and biased—we must reimagine what assessments look like in this country.

If you think standardized tests are a reflection of the real-world, just ask yourself how many problems in the real world have only one correct solution.

Just pulled my dissertation up to remind myself that I did that and absolutely cracked up remembering that I wrote 4 pages of acknowledgements. It's my favorite part of the whole thing.
Where is this math being discussed with the young people in our country? These topics of life and death and policy and values.... Or is a standardized assessment with multiple choice answers more important?
