🚨 Are midline catheters a safe choice for vancomycin OPAT?
Despite guideline caution, evidence is limited. Using @HMS_MI data, we explored complication risks in hospitalized patients receiving OPAT—with & without vancomycin.
Clinical dogma, meet data. 💉📊 #PatientSafety #OPAT
Findings from @HMS_MI:
Administration of extended courses of vancomycin via midline catheters is associated with higher risks of serious complications and device failure.
This highlights importance of medication & vascular access device compatibility.
