BBC CLOSURES: The BBC has confirmed the closure of BBC Three, BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4 Extra linear broadcast services in Spring 2027.
The BBC needs to make tough decisions due to the sustained financial pressures facing the organisation and must make savings of £500 million by 2028. Today’s changes were announced to staff this morning. It means:
BBC Scotland will remain a channel on iPlayer. Content will also be available on BBC One and BBC Two in Scotland.
BBC Three commissions, supported by increased investment in content for younger audiences will be available on BBC iPlayer and on other platforms, including YouTube.
Programmes from Radio 4 Extra will be on BBC Sounds - and The Daily Service will be on BBC Sounds and local radio.
In a note to staff setting out the changes, BBC Director-General Matt Brittin said: “We need to make every pound work harder for audiences as we respond to the immediate cost pressures and reinvent the BBC for a changing world. We all know that means tough choices.”
He added on the closure of linear broadcast services: “Much of the great content they currently carry will still be found where audiences already enjoy it on iPlayer and Sounds. While this follows media speculation, I recognise the confirmation of this news will be hard for audiences and colleagues.”
Today, more changes have also been announced in BBC News. New Director of BBC News, Rachel Jupp will be laying out plans for further savings early next year as part of the longer-term vision for BBC News. Other divisions will confirm savings plans as soon as possible in the coming months.
This follows earlier savings announced in BBC Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Local, News and Speech and Sounds.
How can a judge determine a "market rent" when the act of doing so means there is no functioning market?

So, so many more examples of big things that are very, very wrong or at least questionable and we hear a big fat 0️⃣
Meanwhile more tinkering, more regulation, more costs and more dangers piled onto the strivers and workers who do the right thing.
Absolute shower of a government.
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
This is unbelievable.👇
My very first thought when I heard this policy was “they won’t pay” and the second was “who’s going to fine them?”.
Yet we have a government that hasn’t thought about either of those very obvious and basic issues.
We already have laws. They are not enforced and the public are too scared to self enforce as this Minister suggests.
This a 10/10 example of gesture politics.
Performative nonsense that bears no scrutiny whatsoever.
Meanwhile, a policeman has been shot, over 150 schools closed by Islamist threats, the economy is on the brink, dangerous prisoners are being released and the boats keep coming.

BBC now a world-wide laughing stock...

Chris McDonald, the Health and Science Minister having a nightmare..🤷♂️
"We're not going to create a special bus police."
So who's enforcing these £100 fines, Minister? 🤔
Half these kids don't even pay their fare. Who on God's earth thinks they'll turn the music down for a fine?
How do you report them? How do you get their details? Do we put up Most Wanted posters for bus passengers?
Another headline, no plan.

Another election where the Right in Britain gets 60% but Labour win.
This is what the next general election will look like unless the Right consolidates

Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe should be big enough to put aside differences and come together to create a proper centre right power house that CAN win. If they stay divided, Labour will prevail for a second term which will finish the UK.

Zelenskyy stands at the European Council reading from a script like a bad actor.
155 billion euros.
Plus another 70 billion.
For drones.
He says it casually. "This is a realistic amount."
For whom?
Not for British pensioners freezing.
Not for German workers watching their economy collapse.
Zelenskyy wants 70 billion more while his press gangs kidnap men off Ukrainian streets.
He wants "two or three times more pressure" while rejecting every peace deal.
He does not even try to sound grateful.
Four years.
A million casualties.
Peace deals rejected.
And still he stands there with his hand out.
70 billion euros.
For drones that will not win.
For a leader who thinks "thank you" is optional.
The con continues.
The script stays the same.
The money keeps flowing.
And the dying never stops.
The war will cost 155 billion euros next year. And we need at least 70 billion euros more from you – for defense, for weapons, and for our resilience. This is a realistic amount. And I ask you to find this support. It will help us hold Russia back.
There are some very simple facts. We stop most Russian assaults on the front line thanks to drones. We cut Russian supply lines with these technologies. And our drones are helping to weaken Russia’s economy.
Right now, we could produce two or three times more drones – depending on the type. But we simply don’t have enough money for that. It’s true. Just imagine if we could put two or three times more pressure on Russia than we do today.
From an address to the participants of the European Council meeting. (4/5)

I am sick to death of watching British MPs obsess over other countries while British taxpayers pay them £98,599 a year.
Apsana Begum is the MP for Poplar and Limehouse.
Look at her X feed. Bangladesh and Palestine dominate her priorities.
She was elected to represent British constituents, not spend her time acting as a spokesperson for international causes.
Britain has enough problems of its own.
If MPs cannot put the people who elected them first, they have no business sitting in the House of Commons.
Last week, I led a cross-party delegation to Bangladesh undertaking wide-ranging site visits, meetings with officials and Ministers, and roundtable discussions with civil society.
At Cox’s Bazar with the @UNHCR_BGD, we heard testimony and beared witness to the conditions and experiences of 1.2 million Rohingya.
This is largest refugee settlement in the world, with increasingly deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
The Rohingya people are calling out for international support and protection.
Piddington’s own MP just sat on his hands. 🫤
Calum Miller spent months calling the MoD Bicester plan for 1,256 men “the wrong site,” “totally inappropriate,” and bad for his constituents.
Then when Parliament voted to condemn it, he (and every other Lib Dem) abstained.
The women of Piddington were in the gallery. Conservatives and Reform voted against the camp.
Their local MP did nothing.
Talks a good game. Disappears when it counts.
