Can't get over how important + timely this feature on student voice in @AASAHQ is. Saving the whole issue to read later. But the story on student publications is 🔥. H/T @PantherPressSHS + @stacey_hetrick pageturnpro.com/AASA/95273-J…

From @SPLC: "School censorship of journalism disproportionately targets female teens, marginalizing their voices and diminishing their ability to develop as leaders." We need #NewVoices legislation to protect our students' voices! #InternationalWomensDay

#Journalism matters. Students' voices matter. The @newvoicesny, @PaVoices, @NewVoicesFL, @VoicesTexas and sister campaigns are on the move, and we won't stop until the nation's student journalists have full access to their #FirstAmendment rights. #NewVoices @SPLC (16/x)

Virginia legislature will soon vote on New Voices legislation. Ten other states are moving in that direction. What are students in your states doing to get this legislation passed? Check out the SPLC for more details and resources to get this started. splc.org/new-voices/

“If student journalists were to guide their ethical decisions by asking the question, ‘Which choice would the administration agree with?’ their freedom of expression would be inherently compromised.”
Adopting a code of ethics is excellent promotion of ethical discussion and decision-making in scholastic media. Seeing applicability of various ethics codes, high school journalists inevitably reflect on their own practice and future concerns. For more: bit.ly/2ZydGqg

A great story by college paper @atitan about high school journalists in their area who say they were put "through hell" because of censorship, but managed to eventually reveal the truth. bit.ly/2DNbWPZ
