-Thanks again to incoming transfer RHP Paul Toovalian for being our guest last night on the “Diamond Bearcat Podcast-Episode 17.” Paul addressed a number of issues including what schools reached out after his entering the portal and which schools he visited. Despite being only a sophomore, he was a Friday starter for DII Lenoir-Rhyne posting a 3.33 ERA with 62 K’s in 46 innings. If you listen to the podcast, you’ll likely agree that he’ll be bringing not only starting experience but a mental maturity and toughness to the Bearcat pitching staff next season. -The 2026 MLB draft will be televised tomorrow (Saturday) on ABC at 1 p.m. Four rounds will be completed on Saturday. The remaining 16 rounds will be held on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. The entire draft will be televised on the MLB Network. -Looking around at MLB draft articles again today, incoming recruit RHP Jack Slightom continues to be a hot topic of conversation. He evidently made huge gains by participating in the MLB combine impressing people with his size, arm strength and demeanor. Some think Slightom might even squeeze into the 1st round. Jack Natili appears to be another lock to hear his name tomorrow (Saturday), and Nate Taylor could hear his name as well. If not, Taylor won’t have to wait long on Sunday morning. -Next week’s “Diamond Bearcat Podcast” will have a Cincinnati flavor with RHP Cam Anderson (W. Clermont) and RHP Ryan Murphy (Oak Hills) as guests. Anderson was a hot recruit a couple years ago playing for Midland, but Cam sustained an arm injury and missed his senior season. After an arduous year of rehab, Anderson is again healthy and pitching and has already reported to UC. Ryan Murphy is still a year away from joining the Diamond Bearcats, but he may have had the best spring of any pitcher in the Queen City. The junior posted a 12-0 record with 107 K’s in 73 innings and a minuscule 1.06 ERA. He’ll be leading Midland to the Connie Mack World Series in two weeks.
