PTCBR has been working hard this past week to figure out just what is going on with MyWay+, and what we need to do to fix it.
Our members' eyes and ears (and wallets) help us do this. Do you want to be part of this? It's super easy and cheap to join!

We've made a series of observations, suggestions, and recommendations that we are actively discussing with the Minister for Transport and Transport Canberra.
"Why invest in light rail when we could just build Bus Rapid Transit instead?"
It’s a common question. In the second installment of PTCBR's Light Rail Mythbusters series, we look at the data to see how BRT stacks up against light rail for Canberra.
...
🏛️ Planning: The National Capital Authority's strict heritage and regulatory constraints make building a fully separated, high-capacity BRT corridor through Canberra's Central National Area practically impossible.
...
In short, an integrated network of light rail along our busy corridors and electric buses for suburban routes remains the best way to future-proof Canberra's transport and housing needs.

PTCBR has lodged a submission to the provisional heritage registration of Canberra's iconic precast concrete bus shelters. While we’re thrilled to see these 51-year-old local legends getting the recognition they deserve, we need to ensure the final listing is fit for purpose.
...
The current provisional registration includes the "orange and cream" colour scheme as an "attribute of significance". While well-intentioned, this risks making future paint jobs bureaucratically cumbersome and potentially cost-prohibitive.
...
We’re recommending that the ACT Heritage Council focus the protections on the classic Clement Cummings design, their moveability, and their long history as canvases for community murals.

PTCBR Chair @Amy_Jelacic is in @RegionCanberra today with a critical eye on calls for free public transport:

Canberra’s city centre is currently a jigsaw of orange bollards and detour signs. 🚧 While the disruption is real, it’s also a once-in-a-generation experiment in "traffic evaporation."
It’s time to stop treating Civic as a thoroughfare.
...
The economic benefits are clear: pedestrian-friendly streets can boost retail footfall and trading by up to 40%. People walking and using public transport are the ones who stop, engage and support local businesses.
...
We shouldn’t just aim to "get back to normal" when construction ends in 2028. We should deliver on the promise of the City Plan and the Griffin Legacy by prioritising people over through-traffic.

A great public transport network is only as good as the city built around it. 🚌🏙️
Over the past few months, PTCBR has made five new submissions to the ACT Government and developers to ensure transport and land use planning work together for a better Canberra.
...
We are pushing for:
🏘️ More homes near light rail in Downer and Watson
🚶 Better, sheltered paths between the Woden Interchange and the shops
🏥 Fast-tracking the Belconnen Transitway for the Northside Hospital
🌊 Removing outdated density caps at the Acton Waterfront
