The practical impacts of the NI Executive’s failure to agree a budget have been surprisingly muted. But that’s about to change as doctors & nurses run out of patience on their unimplemented pay awards. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c32l…

Northern Ireland population same as a single health trust in Manchester. Yet apparently we need 5 health and social care trusts and an ambulance trust with ever increasing layers of ‘senior management’ to deliver by far the worst health outcomes in UK. See the problem yet?

Couple this with pay erosion, a recruitment crisis and reduction in bed stock/community social care. Any wonder doctors are saying #NHS is broken? Is it any wonder there are #strikes? Failures by successive governments? Or ‘juvenile delinquent’ doctors? @TheBMA @wesstreeting
Let’s go back to 2010! We didn’t need cancer pathways as urgent referrals were seen in 2-3 weeks, routine in 2-3 months Recruitment was rising, jobs were good. It wasn’t perfect but in 4 decades of NHS work it was the best it had been THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED ….

There are thousands of trained doctors in the UK right now — unemployed. Not because they’re unnecessary. Not because there’s no demand. But because the government refuses to fund the NHS roles we desperately need. In this video, I explain how government austerity, fiscal dogma, and a fundamental misunderstanding of money are forcing young doctors out of medicine — and even out of the country — while people are left waiting for treatment. If we have the doctors, we can fund the doctors. So why won’t they?youtu.be/jN42hYQsehU?si=HOuF…

Sick of being called ‘greedy’, Brown line is consultants, way below the zero line, the blue line is average workers, back above zero. Average pay has climbed at about equal rates over last 3 years but consultant pay still nearly 20% down graph (CPI). There’s full tax restoration, where’s the pay restoration journey, show us Wes.
The BMA Resident Doctors Committee still refuses to meet me. After a 28.9% pay rise, they say another 29% is “non-negotiable.” This is not the way a reasonable trade union behaves.

I’ll drop this here again without comment.
Wes Streeting has failed to commit to negotiate on pay. We are left with no choice but to strike. We will strike between 07:00 Friday 25th July and 06:59 Wednesday 30th July. This will be a full walkout. Strikes are the only message that successive governments listen to.

The results are in: we have a clear mandate to strike. More than 90% of you who voted in our ballot, voted YES. You’ve made it clear: enough is enough. Our fight for full #PayRestoration for resident doctors in England continues.

Children under 8 shouldn't drink slushy ice drinks, researchers have warned, because drinks containing glycerol can make children very ill. But what is glycerol? Prof Ellen Crushell, senior author of the study, explains. #R4Today

Most of the “literature” to facilitate the role out of PAs and AAs is more fiction than fact. @trishgreenhalgh reveals the substandard quality, gaps in the literature, and measurement/outcome bias. The literature does not stand up to scrutiny! papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…

So NI unions (@BMA_NI @RCN_NI @NASUWT @unisontheunion) having to fight tooth and nail to get between 5-6% uplifts for 24/25, with public sector pay awards being consistently delayed/diluted but MLAs award themselves 38%. Farcical
I voted against today's motion, while many MLAs bent over backwards to justify this extortionate pay increase for themselves. In no other job would a 38% increase be considered reasonable. Why should MLAs be treated differently than any other worker?

Leaving hospital when you're medically fit frees up a bed for someone who is acutely unwell. When you or your loved one needed admission to hospital, a patient was discharged to provide a bed. Timely discharge saves lives ⏰
