This week two beloved Miami elementary schools closed their doors to their students. The choices that led us here are not parents’ choices but legislators’ choices. The state legislature has gutted public school budgets for private interests. miamiherald.com/news/local/e…

Randi Weingarten, President of the @AFTunion, is testifying before Congress about the coronavirus response in our schools. We want lawmakers to fund public education and advance solutions to improve schoolhouse conditions--not scapegoat educators. #makeitmakesense

New: Last week, 3 Miami-Dade School Board members attended the HB1 signing. Attending similar events isn't new. But their support of a voucher expansion public school advocates say could hurt districts is at odds with the board’s legislative priorities. miamiherald.com/news/local/e…

This moment of national reckoning demands local solutions and action. I have and continue to stand with the call for expanded police accountability, through a community oversight board with the full funding and power to do its job. miamiherald.com/opinion/edit…

Please read this thread. This young lady details her experience during a protest in DC. There is great potential for educators to use this moment in history to teach our youth that their voices matter.

It took @DavidLat, who is now on a ventilator, two visits to the ER with severe respiratory symptoms until he was finally tested for COVID-19. And he's a journalist.
Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19. He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. He was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person.
A deep awareness of the goodness of human beings, that they are essentially kind, helpful, and gentle, can give us courage and hope. On a personal level too, such a vision of our basic nature can help promote a greater sense of well-being and connectedness with others.
