Building a solar project is only part of the process. The energy it generates must also be delivered reliably to the owner communities we serve. Black Hollow Sun Phase I and II are strategically located near existing Platte River transmission infrastructure, helping connect energy to Platte River's system and deliver power where it's needed most. Reliable energy doesn't stop at generation—it depends on a strong, connected grid.

What's better than building bikes for second graders and then helping them take their first ride? We can't think of much. Platte River volunteers had an incredible day assembling bikes, distributing helmets and creating lasting memories with local students. Thank you to everyone who made the day such a success!

How do we protect community interests when making major energy investments? Projects like Black Hollow Sun Phase II don't move from proposal to ribbon cutting overnight. Before agreements are finalized, teams evaluate risks, negotiate contract terms, establish performance expectations and work through extensive review processes. Our board of directors—made up of representatives from our owner communities—provides oversight to help ensure decisions align with community priorities and long-term energy goals. It's all part of our commitment to delivering reliable, affordable energy while being responsible stewards of community resources.

At Platte River, resource decisions are made close to home. As a community-owned public power utility, we're governed by a board made up of representatives from our owner communities. Major investments like Black Hollow Sun solar project undergo extensive review to help ensure they support our mission of reliability, affordability and sustainability. That means decisions are guided by the needs of the communities we serve—not shareholders. Local decisions. Long-term value. Community benefits.

September is National Preparedness Month! At Platte River, safety is a core part of everything we do. Our most recent all-employee safety meeting taught staff about fire safety and gave them hands-on experience extinguishing a live fire. Our safety team shared that the leading causes of residential fires are cooking, heating, electrical malfunctions and unintentional causes. Stay prepared!

Before selecting a project, multiple technologies, costs, risks and future energy needs are analyzed. Not every energy solution works for every community. Platte River’s goal is to find the best long-term fit for our owner communities. #EnergyPlanning #PublicPower

Today, we pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001. Though Colorado is miles away from New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C., the ripple effects of the 9/11 tragedy reached every corner of our nation. To the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the unity that followed, we will never forget. 🕊️❤️
