This photograph shows a Native American man looking over the newly completed transcontinental railroad in Nevada in the year 1869. Let's assume the man was around forty and was born in the 1820s. The changes he must have seen are astonishing. What this man is looking at, is the beginning of the end of the “quiet” world. Everything he knew is about to change; everything he’s known will soon be forever altered by ‘progress.’ Everywhere that railroad goes, little towns will pop up, towns will turn into cities, and small stores into companies. More trains, followed by trams, cars, motorcycles, and airplanes.

Vladimir Putin owns 20 houses, 700 cars, 58 aircraft and helicopters, and a $716 million plane. A huge big super yacht and reports also claim that the Bunker Midgets personal wealth stood at a staggering $200 billion and he is also the head of a gangster state where he has introduced new strict laws on freedom of speech and jailed or killed all his opposition. Western elites 😂🤡 #RussiaIsANaziState #RussiaIsATerroristState

Tolkien hated Dune, but was too polite to explain why. When you compare the sensibilities of Tolkien's writings to those of Herbert's, it makes sense why it wouldn't appeal to him. The Lord of the Rings has clearly defined good guys and bad guys and is a story of good triumphing over evil. Dune is about a group of not-so-good people getting revenge on even worse people. The Lord of the Rings has themes lifted from Judeo-Christian theology, and heroes rising up to fulfill their destinies. Dune is very much an anti-religious story about the weaponization of faith and man-made prophets claiming destiny as justification for their grasps at power. The Lord of the Rings is about small people from humble backgrounds facing dangers to protect what they love. Dune is about aristocrats killing aristocrats and using the little people as cannon fodder. The Lord of the Rings is optimistic and ends with the true king being restored to the throne and ushering in a golden age. Dune is pessimistic and ends with a tyrant being replaced by another tyrant.

On October 17, 1989, the San Francisco Bay area of the United States experienced the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake. The Loma Prieta earthquake was triggered by the San Andreas Fault, where the massive Pacific plate slips northwestward. The epicenter slipped up to two meters (six feet) during the quake. The Loma Prieta earthquake caused 63 deaths, 3,757 injuries, and about $6 billion in damage. Many casualties occurred as parts of several transportation routes, including the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and a busy freeway, collapsed.

Marlon Brando's transformation through makeup for the role of Don Vito Corleone in the 1972 film 'The Godfather' is truly stunning. The film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is widely considered one of the greatest movies in cinematic history, and Brando's portrayal of the mafia boss is often hailed as one of his most iconic performances. The makeup work done for Brando's character played a significant role in bringing Don Vito Corleone to life on the big screen.

Instead of saying someone spoke, Anglo-Saxon poets would sometimes say he ‘unlocked his word-hoard’—𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘦𝘤. Think of what that might mean to a civilization at the dawn of literacy. To most people, a stirring speech could only be carried in the heart, and immortalized by passing it on to others. The treasure you were ‘unlocking’ when you spoke was a thought, a conviction, a noble feeling expressed in words, which was all the more precious because it might not outlast you. I think our civilization could use this phrase. In these times of peril, it might remind us to treasure our freedom to speak, and to hear whatever others have to say. Instead of saying someone ‘spoke their truth’ or ‘spoke their conscience’, we should say they unlocked their word-hoard.

David Bowie - Footstompin’ The groove that eventually became Fame. Strutting, in a gouster outfit, voice shot to bits, with new-squeeze Ava doing her thing; and higher than Simon Cowell’s trousers. The Young Americans period was just something else. The Dick Cavett Show. 1974.

🔥🚨BREAKING: Carrie Sheffield, Fox News star exposed her 'cult-like' childhood with an abusive father who believed he was a Mormon prophet and forced his eight kids to live in a shed and eat grass... telling her she'd be raped and killed if she ever fled his reign of terror. She also went on to explain how her past ‘led her to Christ.’ This is true bravery I would love to see Carrie lead a women empowerment movement.

International Space Station slipping across the Moon's face as it flies by at 8 kilometers per second, gently kissing Tycho crater. That crater is 53 miles wide, so while the station almost looks like it's orbiting the moon, it's actually 1000x closer to us. What a shot! 📸Credit: Andrew McCarthy
