Let me say this very directly.
Football does not belong to investors. It belongs to the people who fill the stands and who stand on the touchline week in, week out, rain or shine.
The World Cup is not a product. It is the greatest competition in world sport, and it was never anyone's to sell. Dress the deal up however you like. Once you have sold a piece of it, you have sold out.
Football belongs to the fans. It always has, and it always will.

Yesterday, I was so proud to see Liverpool at its very best as taxi drivers from across our city and beyond came together to give more than 250 children in care an unforgettable day out at Southport Pleasureland.
Seeing the cabs, brilliantly dressed for the occasion, set off from my constituency was a reminder of the incredible generosity and spirit that defines our city.
A huge thank you to Bernie Buxton, who founded this remarkable event 43 years ago, and to his army of volunteers who make it all possible. Year after year, they create memories that will stay with these children and their families for a lifetime.
This is Liverpool.
Looking after each other. ❤️💙

Later today, Southport and the Liverpool City Region will remember all the people directly affected by the tragic events of summer 2024.
A three-minute silence will be observed at 3pm this afternoon, and will include halting traffic at the Mersey Tunnels, holding the Mersey Ferry at Pier Head and making announcements at bus stations, including Bootle in Sefton.

#Bootle | We are proud to support the City Region towns bidding to become the UK’s first Town of Culture.
Prescot in Knowsley, Widnes in Halton, Bootle in Sefton, St Helens, and Birkenhead and New Brighton in Wirral are all hoping to claim the title, along with £3m to support a cultural programme.
Blending the swagger of a city and the community of a town, Bootle is changing - a creative tinderbox ready to ignite. With Salt and Tar pulling in huge headline acts and the town centre being transformed, it is time to step out from the shadows.
Good luck to everyone involved 👏
We’ll be shining a spotlight on the other contenders ahead of the announcement of the shortlist in July.
