📣 Reclassification marks an important milestone in a student's educational journey, recognizing when they have achieved English proficiency. However, inconsistent criteria and processes can affect when students reach this milestone and the support they receive along the way. AB 2555 aims to establish a more consistent and transparent reclassification process across California by strengthening criteria, engaging parents as partners in language development, and monitoring students' progress after reclassification. The law also provides a pathway for English learners with disabilities and promotes greater transparency through annual reporting. When schools, families, and policymakers work together, we can create more equitable opportunities for English learners to thrive and continue their journey toward biliteracy. Your future is worth investing in, and financial aid can help make your educational goals more attainable. The California Dream Act Application (CADAA) helps eligible students access financial aid that can cover tuition, books, living expenses, and other basic needs. Grants are especially valuable because they do not need to be repaid. Have questions about your eligibility or privacy? The California Student Aid Commission (@castudentaid) does not share your personal information. Take the first step toward funding your education.

One student. Many people in their corner. A teacher. A counselor. An administrator. A community partner. A family member. Each can play a different role, but together they create something stronger: a network of support that helps students navigate challenges and succeed. #StudentSupport #FamilyEngagement

Students build independence by doing, not just by being told. Routines help them manage responsibilities. Choice gives them ownership. Reflection helps them learn from mistakes. Problem-solving builds confidence. The goal isn’t to step in less. It’s to give students more opportunities to try, think, and take the lead. #StudentIndependence #Education

Today, PIQE recognizes Indigenous Peoples Day by honoring the cultures, histories, knowledge, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. For educators and communities, honoring Indigenous voices also means creating space to learn from their experiences and ensuring students see histories and perspectives that reflect the communities around them. We encourage continued learning, listening, and meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, not just today, but throughout the year.
